An uplifting journey through a historic township

We do 'Tourism in a Township' and not 'Township Tourism' - The Langa Township Heritage Museum was once a court and pass office, where black people obtained passes during apartheid, as they were not allowed to move freely. Feel the museum come to life in an immersive reenactment, providing insight into the daily indignities suffered by black people during the apartheid era. Afterward, we will walk through Old Langa, be inspired, shop and refresh at ikhaya le Langa entrepreneurial hub where I’ll share with you Ikhaya le Langa’s vision.

This was the highlight of our trip! Tony is a wealth of knowledge and doing phenomenal work in the local township of Langa. The tour and reenactment gave us a real inside look at life in the past to present. Getting the chance to interact with local residents, who all know and love Tony, was a real treat. I highly recommend this, it would be a shame to miss out on this personal, eye-opening, and fun experience while you are in Cape Town! Best Airbnb experience to date!

AMAZING !!! Now that I have that out of my system, I can confidently state that this was such a "hidden gem"-experience, and anyone that looks to try this will most certainly not be disappointed, the visit to the ever vibrant Langa will leave you with a true sense of wonder. The experience at the Pass museum is a MUST.

Tony's presence, passion and dedication are not only inspiring but spellbinding! His energy and humour infectious. The Dom pass re-enactment was utterly riverting and having travelled much, I can truly say that every aspect of the performance was World Class! I also thoroughly enjoyed the guided walk around Langa Quarter especially the friendly children and amazing street art. Thank you to all for my touching and memorable experience. Enough of the Waterfront, may Langa thrive!!

To understand the history of South Africa it is important for travelers to be in touch with the hardships black South African people experienced under the Apartheid regime. The law of carry a pass at all times was brutal and inhumane. This enactment was moving and made many of us very emotional. It took me back 60 years and made me respect just how much forgiveness there has been from Black South Africans. The actors were excellent. Visiting this museum is a must.

The Dom (Dumb) Pass Court Re-Enactment is a must for both locals and anyone traveling to Cape Town. The acting was very professional and included us visitors from the moment we entered the grounds. Visiting the Dompas Museum is truly an emotional experience, as you get a taste of how horrific the every day lives were for our fellow black South Africans if they did not carry their "dompas" on them during the Apartheid era. The re-enactment was extremely moving and many in our group were touched by the experience. This tour also takes you through the historic township of Langa by Tony , founder of iKhaya. His passion for the community is tangible and we were impressed by what iKhaya le Langa NPC are doing to create a safe and entrepreneurial spirit within the Langa community. Highly recommended !!!!

Being a born free and growing in Langa, I have never imagined the hardship and trauma that our fathers and mothers went through. I've heard stories of the of treatment that black people received during Apartheid but experiencing the (Dumb pass court) re-enactment play made me see how things were in the past. It has totally influential to me. I no doubt will do it again and surely will bring my friends to come and experience the Dumb pass court museum. Thanks, a lot Tony, the actors were fantastic. The walk through the painted streets, between children playing hop scotch and jump rope, added another interesting dimension to the tour and also served to expel the idea that the township is unsafe. I felt very welcome in the community.
