When deciding whether to become an Airbnb host, it is important for you to understand the laws in your region or city. As a platform and online marketplace we do not provide legal advice, but we want to provide resources that may help you better understand applicable laws and regulations. This list is not exhaustive, but it may give you a good start in understanding your local laws. If you have questions, visit the short-term rental homepage or other government agencies directly, or consult a local lawyer or tax professional.

On March 12, 2019, the City of Addison passed a Short-Term Rental Ordinance, requiring owners of STRs to obtain a permit, and renew it annually.
Note: According to the City, multifamily apartment buildings are not subject to the ordinance and apartment tenants may host on Airbnb without a permit so long as they have their landlord’s permission. If you have questions regarding the regulations or the application process, contact Planning and Development Manager Lesley Nyp at 972-450-2823 or lnyp@addisontx.gov. Additional short term rental resources can be found here.
Hosts are required to pay hotel occupancy on short term rental stays. More information about hotel taxes can be found here.
The City of Addison encourages Short-Term Rentals to meet various safety requirements that can be found at this link under section 22-255 b.
