It’s transforming the familiar city—with the same iconic monuments and popular spots found on any regular walking tour—into a journey that is deeply rooted and evenhanded to advertise all its glorious highs, the inspiring events, remarkable individuals and splendid artistry, while also confronting its murky lows and the neglected details of class, gender and race divide, intolerance, religious fervor and authoritarian politics.
