Farwell Cottage is a 400 year old cosy but spacious 3 bedroom/1 bathroom Devon longhouse and is the perfect base for a couple, group of friends or small family (+ dog) to escape at any time of year. We are on the South Devon Coast path - so its a 15 mins walk to the award winning beach at Blackpool Sands, 5 mins to the pub, 10 mins to the local brasserie and around 50 minutes walk into the historic town of Dartmouth. We provide access to the next door Stoke Lodge Hotel leisure facilities!

Chỗ ở
The cottage is secluded within lush woodland, yet right in the middle of this vibrant village - its a just a few minutes walk to the well stocked village shop, the friendly and vibrant Green Dragon pub and the superb Radius 7 brasserie. We are three minutes up the road from the Stoke Lodge Hotel where guests can use their leisure facilities at half price (indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, games room in winter and outdoor pool and tennis court in summer), as well as sampling their excellent food and drink.

The cottage is attached to Farwell House, the original Georgian rectory, and would have been auxiliary accommodation probably for servants. Today, the cottage is completely self contained and has its own entrance and private garden to the side. Some windows overlook the courtyard to the main house (courtyard not accessible to guests).

Entering through the stable door, there are several steps up into the large open plan lounge with log burner and small dining alcove with views over the gardens. Note that the rest of the property is on one level, which may be of interest for those with reduced mobility (the cottage can be accessed through the back door where there is just one main step and a shallow step) or if you have small children/buggy.

Kitchen - refitted in 2018 and well appointed with quartz work tops and breakfast bar. Single Neff electric fan assisted oven, Neff induction hob, integrated fridge with small freezer compartment, microwave and dishwater. Nespresso coffee machine and capsules. There is a washer/dryer in the utility room at the back of the cottage.

Living room/Dining Area
A lovely, airy surprisingly large room open to the rafters, with comfortable sofa and two arm chairs. 43" Flatscreen TV with Freesat, DVD player and Sonos sound system. Log burning stove with logs according to season. Small dining alcove with table that will seat four people snugly.

Bedroom 1
King size (5 ft) sleigh bed, with chest of drawers, dressing table and built in wardrobe. Sofa bed that converts to a single. Room for a cot if required. This room is double aspect with three windows. (Due to the small dining alcove only seating 4, we usually only use the single sofa bed for children or short stays).

2nd/3rd Bedrooms
The second and third bedrooms are at the other end of the cottage therefore affords complete privacy from bedroom 1. PLEASE NOTE: These two bedrooms are adjoining - so you need to go through bedroom 2 to get to bedroom 3. Each has a 3 ft single bed, chest of drawers, and window. There is a built in wardrobe for both rooms in the corridor.

Family Bathroom
Bath with shower over, wash basin, WC and heated towel rail.

Garden Description
Lovely cottage garden is reached through the front door to the left, is secluded with garden furniture. Note that the garden is not securely fenced so if you bring a dog, it needs to be under control. There is the perfect dog walking recreation field at the top of the drive though! (No access to the central courtyard). The recreation field also has a children's playground.

Parking
One allocated parking space with additional space directly outside of the cottage.

Stoke Fleming, England, Vương quốc Anh

The village and the surrounds: Situated in a clifftop position with panoramic views along the 9 mile sweep of Start Bay in South Devon, the village of Stoke Fleming is a great place to visit at any time of year. The village itself is a thriving community , the social life of which is centred on its pub, hotel, post office, primary school, church, village hall and range of clubs and interest groups. Below the village lies Blackpool Sands, and beyond that several miles of beaches. The busy and attractive riverside town of Dartmouth is just three miles away, with much to offer ashore and afloat.

A typical day in the summer: we like to pop down the 'birdwalk' running alongside the cottage to the village shop to pick up freshly cooked croissants and bread. Becky takes orders the day before so that you can be sure of the shop not running out! On the way back the children (and adults!) love to pop up to next door farmer David's little blue shed to collect the just laid eggs - £1.30 in the honesty box. Those with dogs can let them have a run around in the recreation ground and chat to the locals (canine and human) - and the children can have a quick play on the swings. After breakfast, on a lovely day we will take the swimming things and wander down to the beach - its 15 minutes downhill and 20 minutes plus back, often good to time coming back with the bus! Blackpool Sands is simply lovely - the walk down is a photo opportunity in its own right. The beach is fine shingle and not sand, and the Venus Beach cafe, shop and take away has everything for a great day on the beach from ice creams to paddle boards. You can also BBQ on the beach in the evening. Its never crowded - and a world away from the high rise resorts of the Med. (Note: no dogs on the beach at all in the summer - sad, but understandable). On the way back we might call into the Green Dragon - Alan and Georgie and their team are very friendly and welcome all - dogs and children. In the evening we may BBQ, eat at the pub, Stoke Lodge Hotel or at Radius 7 - also note that Radius 7 has an excellent take away - especially Sunday roasts! New for 2020: Stoke Lodge Hotel next door has great leisure facilities - an outdoor and indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, tennis court and pool table. Guests can use these great facilities for half the published price.

Out of season the cottage also has a lot to offer - great walks, wonderful scenery and now a dip in the heated pool or Jacuzzi to relieve aching joints!

Dartmouth is also a real destination - we have a guidebook for the area we have compiled. For children, crab lining is always popular, or for more prescribed entertainment Woodlands or Pennywell Farm are excellent for more rainy day activities. The boat and steam rail trips are very well recommended and appeal to all. You can also hire your own small motor boat for the family for the day and go up river to the Sharpham vineyard and Totnes. Brixham is the lively, vibrant fishing town across the river with pirate roots (you are bound to see one). Its a bit more gritty than Dartmouth - again loads of boat trips but out to sea. Try Vigilance, the 78 foot 1926 Brixham trawler which is now run by a charity for boat trips. Brixham has its own FREE saltwater swimming pool – the only one in the country. Rockfish at Brixham is a MUST go to - the restaurant upstairs looks over the fishing harbour which is active in the evening - a splendid sight especially as the nights draw in with the lights. Near Brixham is the National Trust Coleton Fishacre - Arts and Craft house and fabulous gardens going down to the waters edge.

Further afield Totnes is a wonderful foodie town with a lively artistic community and eco credentials. We love Dartington Hall (the house, less so the shops) as the grounds are free to wander around - great for a picnic - and they are spectacular at around 1000 years old. Dartington Hall also puts on some wonderful films/plays. We also love Paignton and Torquay for an occasional visit for their cheesy but fun penny arcades, donkey rides and beaches!

My family have moved to this lovely part of Devon just over a year ago. My husband and I have sold our business so are free to spend time here on our boat, walking, going to the beach, socialising, walking the dogs and spending time with our granddaughter Faith (aged 9) and the rest of the extended family: Emma and Pete and their children Heidi and Finlay. We all live in the main house and its East wing. This is the best move we have ever made - its a wonderful area, vibrant community, wonderful cafes and great seafood. We hope you will love it as much as we do!

We are usually around but leave guests to their own devices, particularly now, hence we are always available if needed via mobile phone. We live in the large grey house on the other side of the courtyard but have a completely different entrance (and post code!).
