Chỗ ở
You have exclusive use of the private downstairs of our house. There is a large outside deck in front of your rooms which have ceiling to floor sliding glass doors, a wrought iron bar, tables and chairs for 20 people, lounge chairs for tanning and a gas fire-pit for cool evenings. The deck looks down to the Watauga river which is just 15 to 20 feet away. You can fish from our back yard which extends about 3/4 of a mile up river. You are also invited to enjoy the lawns, meadow, forests, and Watauga River frontage. Watauga Lake is a 20-25 minute drive and several marinas rent boats. We are just three miles from the TN / NC line on the Watauga River in the Pisgah National Forest and 17 minutes from Boone, NC. The class IV/VI Watauga River (Watauga Gorge) is part of our property. Summer is good for hiking on the 23 acres with hiking trails and swinging bridges across Beech Creek. Also fishing for Rainbow and Brown Trout. Fall is wonderful for the beautiful colors. Winter is a great time for solitude and visiting locals ski resorts.
You and your dogs will love our dog friendly house. We have doggy doors and doggy ramps to the runs and yard. The yard and driveway are fenced all the way to the electronic gate. They can also go thru the sliding doors to the deck and get to the yard if they do not use doggy doors. There is about two miles of trails that you can walk them off leash. There is no traffic and almost complete solitude here by the river. Our dog SHADOW is a yellow lab female and very friendly.

Our guest have the entire downstairs suite and the deck above the river. The upriver side of the house and the river side are enclosed with ceiling to floor sliding glass doors. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils and coffee maker. We do not cook meals for our guest. We will supply coffee, milk, OJ and cereals for late arriving guest. The deck has three grills small medium and large and we do supply the charcoal and lighter. There are steps down to the river from the deck and a ramp on the Beech Creek side for people are pets. The views from the inside of the suit are amazing, but when you walk out on the deck you are standing just 15 to 20 feet from and above the river. The roar of the falls from the class 5 rapids is constant and Beech Creek is entering the river on the right side of the deck. On most days in spring and early summer you can sit on the deck and photograph kayakers as the pass within feet of you... some even wave or give you a shout. In summer we have a bald eagle that comes up from the lake to catch fish and more often we have an osprey that uses a tree just across the river for a fish perch. A great blue heron has been nesting up Beech Creek and is often seen fishing on the creek or the river.

Những điều cần lưu ý khác
If you would like to fish in the Watauga River, You can start from the deck and walk down to the river bank. There is a pool directly behind the house with 28" brown trout and some great Rainbows. There is a trail with multiple access for 50 yards or so downriver. You can wade across Beech Creek a or walk across the swinging bridge to trails that give access to about 3/4 miles up-river. If you would like to hike the trails they are marked with standard trail blazes and we have selected the colors of trails by difficulty, from white to blue to black. I will be happy to hike with you or you can take our dog shadow who is an excellent guide. The black trails are steep with steps or zig-zags but are well developed trails. You will need to be prepared for poison ivy prevention by wearing long pants, long sleeve shirt, high socks, hiking shoes or old tennis shoes, and gloves. We weed whack the sides of most trails spray bush killer on poison ivy but we do not get it all. There are ropes that will assist with descending and then climbing in some areas. There are a number of small streams along the way. In the spring, summer and fall you may want to swim and enjoy the flumes and waterfalls. Water shoes or old tennis shoes, old cut off jeans make the rocks easier to handle. In the winter you can walk along the banks, see undercuts and huge rock faces as well as seeing the powerful river flumes and falls.

The uniqueness is the solitude by the river and the streams. Crossing the creek on a swinging bridge from the yard hiking a mile or so upriver then walking up Beech Creek and taking another swinging bridge to get back to the house is an adventure. We are only 2 miles from the Low Water Bridge on Guy Ford Road that crosses the Watauga River. This is a takeout point as well as a put in point for kayakers. The Watauga River is a Class IV to VI River depending on rain fall. Boone, NC is 25 minutes away. It is a college town with a flair for the arts. Grandfather Mountain, Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, the Virginia Creeper Trail, the Appalachian Trail and many more attractions are within an hour drive. Don’t miss the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis only 10 miles, 20 minutes. The Bristol Motor Speedway is 45 miles away, an hour and 15 minutes via scenic mountain roads. The Watauga Winery is 10 miles, 20 minutes. Antique stores and the Old Mill in Trade, TN are 15 miles, 20 minutes. Boone with concerts, antiques, local art, and great night life is 17 miles, 25 minutes.

I am a retired software engineer who owned a software company for over 30 years. I have been an avid fly fisherman seeking out adventures in every part of this country and some internationally. After seeing those beautiful homes built by the river and wondering just how wonderful they must be. I finally got the opportunity to find out. It is wonderful..... and now I would like to invite others to enjoy a few moments of that beauty. Solitude on 22 acres in the mountain where a river runs through, where trails meander among moss covered trees, where streams trickle down to a great river, where wild turkeys and deer graze in meadows, where Osprey and Eagle fly, where time is old, the mountains are comforting and life is relaxing. Come join us and enjoy our mountains . You are welcome here.
