The Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism houses vintage catering-industry relics and trade history relics. If you'd like to see how a stationery, a confectionery shop, a pharmacy or restaurant looked like in the Hungary of the 19th century or early 20th century it might worth the detour to the cobbled streets of Óbuda.

As for something less crowded and more authentic, I really reccomend visiting the hilly, mountinous 12th district named Hegyvidék (which means Mounty Region) by foot. There are some really nice historic buildings scattered around the district including embassies, museums. This is my favorite place in Budapest, you can literally start off in any direction and find some nice place.

If you don't have a fear of heights you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view from the seats of the János Hill chairlift. Once you're up there on the hill you might want to visit the Elisabeth Lookout Tower, too.

Towering above the historic buildings of the Pest area, this prominent hill overlooks the Danube, the Parliament and most tourist attractions of the city including several of Budapest's most beautiful bridges. Perched on the top of the hill there is the "Statue of Liberty" erected in memory of all the people who died in the freedom fight of 1956 against communist oppression.
