Closest Beach to the house is Optimum beach near the pink hotel in downtown St Pete. The new pier also has a small beach that is great for kids and close to pier restaurants.
Weedon Island Preserve (5 miles from the house) is a great place to kayak through Mangroves (sweetwaterkayaks.com) or take a leisurely walk/hike and see some turtles and mullets jumping out of the water.

It is 25 minutes from the house and has St John's Pass across the street for restaurants, boat and jet ski rentals. You can also take a Dolphin sightseeing trip there.

Good place to try your hand at fishing next to the Skyway bridge. You can rent fishing gear and buy bait there. A friend, who can fish alot better than I, caught some nice size Grouper for the grill.
