The Bonfim Penthouse's area tips
Our neighbourhood of Bonfim keeps an authentic feel and has all you need: several nice cafes, bakeries (there's a good one next door!), restaurants (again, a good one next door - on the other side :) ), grocery shops, as well as pharmacies and ATMs can be found within a 200m range. We put together some recommended places within 1 km of the house so you may enjoy what the area has to offer you.

Simple, basic grocery shopping might be done here. It is 180m/ 0.1mi away from our place and, though we personally prefer Lidl much better - which is also nearby - for better pricing and variety, Minipreço is an option for small, quick shopping for its convenience.

On the top of virtually every “best traditional restaurants in Porto” list, right next door to our building – 6m/ 0.004 mi away. ☺
Opened in 1989, this is a family-run business and the Mendes are specialized on bringing to the table authentic traditional food, fresh and scrumptious, on generous servings. You’ll probably eat the most delicious codfish with corn bread – which comes fresh everyday from Avintes –, or the tastier roasted octopus. If you prefer meat dishes, you won’t want to pass on the roasted veal or the roasted lamb, cooked in a wooden fired oven. The duck rice is delicious and if you want to try Porto’s most famous dish, tripas (beef’s stomach cooked in a stew with white beans, carrots and cumin), this is the place. Good wine selection and fine house wine by glass. For dessert, try their fabulous rabanadas (the Portuguese version of French toast) are a must try.
Decorated in typical Portuguese style, with white and blue tiles in the walls and portraits of Portugal’s famous who came have a bite here – and there are so many! This place is rightly popular with locals and booking is indeed advisable – if you come after 20h without a reservation, chances are that you will have to wait with the crowd at the bar.
