The State Border in the Goriška Region 1945-2004 exhibition was opened in 2005 and is housed in Nova Gorica’s oldest public building - its Railway Station. The exhibition uses photographs, uniforms, flags, maps and documents, to tell the stories of the fates of those who were affected by the state border erected after WWII between the FLRJ (Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia), of which Slovenia was then part, and the Republic of Italy in the area between Mt Sabotin and the town of Miren. The exhibition details the cultural shock experienced when the border cut through the lives of people, separating both families and friends overnight. Upon Slovenia's joining the European Union, the border dividing the twin cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica was removed. The two towns also jointly constructed a square in front of the railway station. At its centre is a large circular mosaic connecting the two cities entitled “A mosaic of a new Europe”

The Dobrovo Castle, a late Renaissance mansion in the centre of Goriška Brda, holds two permanent exhibitions. The museum’s first floor hosts a collection depicting the family as well as the museum collection of former owner Count Silverio de Baguer, while the second floor, which was transformed into a gallery, contains the largest European collection of graphic works by Brda’s native son and world-famous artist Zoran Mušič. The restored attic moreover hosts occasional art exhibitions, while the hall of knights and the mansion’s magnificent courtyard provide the venue for cultural events and weddings. The ground floor is occupied by a restaurant and the courtyard hosts the Home of Rebula venue, offering a taste of this autochthonous Brdo wine variety.

Mighty Predjama Castle is perched halfway up a 123-metre cliff, where it has stood for more than 800 years. It even appears in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest cave castle in the world. The castle is also connected to the legend of the "robber baron" Erasmus of Predjama. Its uniqueness has not escaped the notice of the film industry and it has frequently served as a film set. As well as visiting the castle, we recommend visiting the Cave below Predjama Castle, the second-longest show cave in Slovenia.

Vipavski kriz is a tiny picturesque village in Vipava valley with narrow cobblestone streets called gase, well preserved colorful houses, castle with a castle cellar, Capuchin monastery (the latest building which was built in 17th century!) and 2 churches. Once it was the smallest town in Hapsburg monarchy (but today the 2nd smallest town in the world!) while nowadays there are less than 200 inhabitants with 5 Capuchin priests living in Vipavski kriz. It is protected as a Slovenian cultural monument. Vipavski kriz, a truly pearl of Vipava valley, should be on your itinerary when visiting Vipava valley.

Šmartno, located right in the middle of Brda, is one of the area’s most beautiful villages. This picturesque walled village with five preserved towers can be seen from everywhere in Brda. It was built on top of Roman foundations and is considered an architectural gem and a cultural monument. Its medieval houses are clustered around the church of St. Martin, after whom the village is named. The church contains frescoes by Tone Kralj, while Šmartno itself houses the old Brda House and its adjoining Brda Cellar, illustrating life in the region in the past. The village comes especially alive during traditional feasts such as “Brda and Wine” and “St. Martin's Day”.
