Celebrating over 400 years, this is the oldest botanic garden in the UK, founded in 1621. Originally, it was established as the Oxford Physic Garden and was used for growing medicinal plants in order to teach medical students. The Garden was the birthplace of botanical sciences at Oxford, but it became known as the Oxford Botanic Garden in the 1830s in order to reflect its role in experimental botany.

Due to the exceptional history and architecture that Oxford offers, one of the most popular things you can choose to do is walk around the area on a guided tour.
