A mystical magical place. Feel the power of Glastonbury, the Abbey and the Rural Life Museum, then head to town and to the crystal and healing shops and some great healthy organic 'hippy' food and produce. Some of the best vegan and vegetarian eateries you will find anywhere.

Starling murmurations occur between November to February every year. It's not guaranteed and best on a cold clear night. Dress up warm and go down one hour before dark. During the rest of the year it is still a bird watchers paradise with herons, bitterns, egrets, falcons and many others on the Avalon Marshes - A true wonder of the natural world.

A special village on the top of the Mendips with a Folk festival in August every year on Priddy Green. Walk around Priddy Pools where there used to be ancient Roman lead works. Some great caves for intrepid explorers are here in Priddy but you will need a guide or a club. Two great but very different pubs, the Queen Vic and the Hunters Lodge.

Cycling Routes

Cycle Routes
Cycle up or down Cheddar Gorge. Going down is great, going up is not for the faint hearted but really rewarding. Our favourite is to cycle up 'Draycott Steeps' and back down Cheddar Gorge, then along the back road to return to the annex. Or visa versa if you prefer. Beware that Draycott Steep is well known as one of the steepest cycling challenges in England! This takes 1.5 to 2 hours. https://goo.gl/maps/qt6DhRVjoYq9aMNx8

Cycle to Westhay Moor and return via Mudgley to meet Roger Wilkins and his famous cider (and Cheese) and the isle of Avalon / Wedmore. This is mostly flat across the Somerset Levels but does have some little hills around Wedmore and Mudgley. Take a sip of Cider and it'll be no trouble at all!. 2-4 hours! Don't forget to ask Roger for some cheese. Its the best Cheddar cheese around. The cider is the cure for everything...including covid as local rumour goes. Follow the old Strawberry Line Railway to Yatton and back. A cycle path follows the route of the old railway most of the way passing by Thatchers cider orchards (with pub to one side) 26miles there and back again 2-3 hours cycle and its nearly all flat. The Strawberry line gained its name from the strawberries for sale at Draycott that were sent by train right across the UK. The fields behind our annex which now have sheep in all used to have strawberries growing in only 30 years ago. https://goo.gl/maps/zCnSWGyLaEv6Ls3TA
