In 1837 began making the original Pastéis de Belém, following an ancient recipe from the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. That secret recipe is recreated every day in our bakery, by hand, using only traditional methods. Even today, the Pastéis de Belém offer the unique flavour of time-honoured Portuguese sweet making.

Drinks & Nightlife

The nightlife of Lisbon is considered one of the best in Europe, although it consists not only of nightclubs but also of living with a glass. The locals are very sociable and love to go out at night in this city with bars, theaters, discos and fado houses. Usually a good night out lasts until dawn, as most bars close at 2am and discos at 6am or later. The four main areas to consider are Alcântara, Santos, Bairro Alto and Docas. In Alcântara / Santos the atmosphere is lively with many nightclubs to choose from.

Built on the northern bank of the Tagus between 1514 and 1520 as part of the Tagus estuary defence system, the Tower of Belém is one of the architectural jewels of the reign of Manuel I. In the tower as a whole one can distinguish two distinct volumes and military architectural models: the mediaeval keep tower and the modern bulwark which, as it contained two artillery levels, allowed for long-distance cannon firing as well as ricochet shots over the water.

Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the São Jorge Castle and the Tejo river. Its name comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning "hot fountains" or "baths". Wander down (to save your legs) through Alfama's steep, narrow, cobblestoned streets and catch a glimpse of the more traditional side of Lisbon. It contains many important historical attractions, as well as an abundance of Fado bars and restaurants
