There are several hiking trails along the large ponds that are quiet and scenic. There are also nice swimming spots here and it is very dog-friendly.

This is a 2 mile hike that is far less popular than the trail up Blue Mountain but, in my opinion, the views are superior. Also, there are caves and crevices in the rocks along the trail that you can explore.

The Vanderbilt's Adirondack Great Camp is open for tours on weekends but you can hike the trail around the lake or the Powerhouse trail any time. The lake loop is 3.8 miles and can be accessed from the road labeled "Guest Access" (you'll find the trailhead just before the gated bridge). The trailhead for the Powerhouse trail is located on the left side of Sagamore Road just after you cross the first bridge. This trail follows an inlet to Raquette Lake, passes by the old waterwheel powerhouse and winds up at the inlet rapids.
