A very complete 17th century property owned by the National Trust. Kitchen area particularly interesting. They have fantastic gardens including formal areas and kitchen garden with heritage plants. Plenty of nooks to stumble across - take a picnic on a sunny day.
It is also supposed to be one of the most haunted houses in Britain, and does ghost tours in autumn.
The cafe in the Orangery is also good. Check the opening days and times carefully as they vary over the year.
Good to combine with a trip on the foot ferry over the river to Twickenham and a visit to Orleans House and gallery, and maybe Marble Hill House and park.

Also a relaxing cafe/bar on the ground floor where you can feel comfortable spending time, sipping a cappucino and people-watching.
Fascinating house with changing exhibitions in two separate galleries, and a cafe too. The exhibitions are often interesting for children. Don't miss the Richard Burton (the explorer and polymath) highlights in the permanent collection.

A huge park, administered by the Royal Parks. The largest of London's royal parks, the largest enclosed space in London, and a site of special scientific interest. It is home to herds of red and fallow deer. You can cycle, jog or walk. Nearest entrance to us is Ham Avenue Gate (10 minutes' cycle, under 5 mins' drive).
Special tip - go to Pembroke Lodge for tea or a bite to eat, then find King Henry's Mound, from where you can, amazingly, look straight through across London to the dome of St Paul's Cathedral.
Bike hire is available in the park. The Isabella Plantation, within the park, has an amazing display of rhododendrons round May and is a good spot for a picnic. Family and disabled-friendly.
