Drinks & Nightlife

Most Tuesday nights Celtic music is played and sung by local musicians within the district. The Seiners Pub has lots of rustic charm and is right on the beach promenade next to the main car park or a 15 - 20min walk from the caravan. It's dog friendly and does great food!

Near the quaint town of St Agnes, Wheal Coates tin mine opened in 1802 and worked until 1889. The image of the Towanroath Shaft engine house, famous on postcards, calendars, and on the telly represents for many the serene beauty of the north Cornish coast. In reality this industrial landscape holds a harsh and austere history. Not best for young children and keep your dogs on a lead as it is situated on a cliff. For the more adventurous Wheal Coates is also accessible from Chapel Porth Beach & National Trust beach car park (but get there early in the summer months). While there try out the famous 'hedgehog' Cornish ice cream from the Chapel Porth Cafe, delicious!

Another National Trust site on the wild Tin Coast, the famed Crowns engine houses at Bottallack cling to the foot of the cliffs. Part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site and Poldark filming location. On your day out travel to Bottallack from St Ives via Zennor and visit the The Church of Saint Senara, in Zennor Churchtown with the legend of the mermaid. Then head towards St Just and if time allows after Bottallack visit either Gwynver, Sennen or the Minnack Theatre above Porthcurno all of these are probably worth a day out on their own (see additional information)

The church of St Senara in the small Cornish village of Zennor is one of the historic delights of the St Ives area. The present church dates to the 12th century, but it is thought to stand on the site of a cell founded by the 6th century saint, Senara, whose name has been altered over the centuries to become 'Zennor'. Alternative versions of the story say that she was washed up at Zennor, where she founded a church, before continuing on to Ireland, or that she came ashore in Ireland, and only later visited Cornwall and founded a church here. In either event, her husband heard of her good work and invited her to return to Brittany as his queen, and named her son as his heir.

Parks & Nature

Only 20 minutes walk north of the caravan is the 'lost oratory' which was the site of a 6th century early Christian church established by St. Piran, an Irish missionary who was the patron saint of tinners, and the most important saint in Cornwall. It lies a few hundred yards west of the ancient church ruins & cross that also bears his name, Walk north to the perimeter of Perran Sands Holiday Park & look for a cross on top of the highest sand dune. From the large concrete cross (built as a landmark) survey the whole sandy wildlife reserve, the oratory with the nearby ancient church ruins a short walk further north, This is a must see while staying at the caravan with or without dogs.

Holywell Bay is another fantastic beach nearby for a change of scenery. In fact you can see it's Gull Rocks from the caravan. About 10 minutes drive or 50 minutes walk along the coast path, this famous and iconic beach has regularly been used for film sets including Poldark. Dog friendly with great surfing & surf schools during the summer (RNLI Lifeguards patrol between May & the end of September), it also has a stream for the youngsters to play in, sand dunes to slide down, caves & of course the holywell to explore plus even a shipwreck can be seen at low tide! Parking is best at the National Trust Car Park but be early during summer months e.g. around 10 ish

Crantock Beach & the Gannel Estuary are extremely beautiful examples of nature at it's finest. Great for families, surfing holidays or other water sports like stand up paddle boards (SUPs), kayaks, canoes etc. RNLI Lifeguards operate between mid May to the end of September and it is important to take their direction & advice Once again during summer months it is important to get to the National Trust Car Park early to avoid getting caught in queues. Crantock is dog friendly with some amazing walks on the beach and nearby Porth (Polly) Joke Beach (secret spot but no lifeguards).

Shopping

Truro, the UK’s most Southerly city is a vibrant centre of shopping, culture and impressive architecture right in the heart of Cornwall. Centre stage is Truro Cathedral with its impressive gothic towers dominating the skyline. In its shadow, a warren of compact streets are home to an impressive array of independent traders. From boutiques to bookshops and designer interiors to delicatessens, this great little city offers a unique shopping experience. The café culture is pretty impressive too, with hip coffee houses, artisan ice creameries and cocktail bars dotted across the centre. There is a yearlong festival programme, weekly food markets and several art galleries, cultural events and hi

Essentials

For a big shop the most convenient stores are probably Morrison's & Lidl about 10 minutes drive away, this side of Newquay. There is also a Morrison's fuel outlet and a McDonalds between the two supermarkets. If you need milk or other essentials there is a small supermarket at Haven's Perran Sands Holiday Park it is a bit more expensive but right on your door step.
