Thurlow dam was built as the site of an early 19th-century textile mill that was used during the Civil War as a uniform and ammunition plant. The dam was named in honor of Oscar. G. Thurlow, a chief engineer, vice president and director of Alabama Power Company.
In 1928, Thurlow was awarded the Howard N. Potts Medal by the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia for his work in science and the mechanical arts. He invented the Thurlow Backwater Suppressor, which was first installed in Mitchell Dam on the Coosa River.

The oldest house in Tallassee. This pioneer two room dog trot log dwelling was constructed of notched hand-hewn timbers. It was built by the son of Archibald Patterson (1786-1857) a pioneer family from North Carolina.

We offer a Fast Casual setting, where you place your order at the counter, proceed to the beverage bar, and have a seat while your order is prepared fresh and delivered to your table…no tip required or expected. Our menu consists of gourmet sandwiches served on fresh baked breads such as Asiago Cheese, Vienna White and Wheat, and other Artisan Breads. Each soup we prepare is made from scratch using the freshest ingredients. Our salads are hand tossed to order, never made ahead of time. Our desserts include house made pies and cakes along with our proprietary cookie recipes, which are absolutely amazing! And yes, we serve MooWalla Frozen Custard (premium ice cream) and fresh roasted, three bean Colombian and Specialty coffees. We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we enjoy serving you.
