McDonald-Dunn Research Forest is located a short 15 minute drive N of the OSU campus. Because of its proximity to campus, this Forest is extensively used for university instruction & research. Four distinct forest management themes, even-aged, two-storied & uneven-aged, plus reserved old-growth stands, allow side-by-side comparisons of the effects of implementing these themes. The Forest's non-motorized recreation opportunities in close proximity to the Corvallis community result in over 175,000 non-motorized recreation visits each year.
Go to the McDonald-Dunn Forest website to download different hikes. (There are all different level hikes)

Franklin Square is the oldest public park in Corvallis, donated to the city by Beniah R. & Addie Job in 1889 to be used “for all time to come as a public park”. The Jobs prioritized beautification of the community, and the planting of trees & shrubs commenced at once. Volunteers cared for these early plantings, and the park in general, by hand & with horse-drawn implements. The trees now standing are large & magnificent specimens. For at least 46 years, there has been a play structure for children in the park.

Right across from Central Park in downtown Corvallis, This art center is wonderful! Rotating artists in the gallery. The gift shop that has lots of fun local artist wares is always fun to shop. If you plan ahead you could participate in a family pottery night!

In August 2013 The Majestic Theatre turned 100 years old. The venerable vaudeville house has seen many incarnations over the decades before being purchased by the City of Corvallis in 1985 at the behest of the community. Many organizations were involved in the lobby to purchase the building & raise operating funds. The Majestic's focus is on establishing The Majestic as the flagship cultural space for the performing and contemporary arts in downtown Corvallis, serving the City and surrounding counties. It is fun to walk downtown Corvallis. It is about a 20ish minute walk from the apt. There are many unique shops in town: Many Hands Trading, Inkwell, Grassroots Books, Benny Donuts (yum!), Whitewinds Superfoods for a local delicious smoothy or healthy immune boosting shot!

Extensive beer, wine, coffee, cheese and fresh produce choices! (fresh orange juice made daily to go!)

The Corvallis Transit System (CTS) is fare less. (free!) You could bring your bike and mount it on the bus. Depending on which direction you are heading the closest bus stop is on Kings & Taylor. (approx. a 5 block walk to the bus station) CTS recommends you use Google Transit on your phone or online to plan routes.
