During Christmas time the Calgary Zoo does "Zoo Lights" where the Zoo is decorated with hundreds of Christmas lights. Amazing site to see! We usually go on a warmer winter night as the Zoo is next to the river and can get chilly.
For special occasions, such as Mother's Day, the Zoo puts on a special brunch that you can buy tickets for.

Our favourite off-leash dog park in Calgary!
Large dog park with river access. It gets very busy during nice weekends between 11-2. No washrooms but the parking lot does have an outhouse or two if you have to use them. The pathways are not paved, so it can get muddy after it has rained. Gets very dark at night so bring a flash light or attach a light to fido. This park is right next to the river so we have seen wildlife inside, such as deer and porcupines so caution is advised!
If your dog is not good with other dogs this is not the place to go!

Looks like a dive, but the food is inexpensive and decent. They always have something on special, such as wings, ribs, pasta or pizza. They have some of the best wings and dry ribs we have had in Calgary. Their homemade soup of the day is always excellent too.
They are child friendly only until 8pm.
