Restaurants

Great Mexican restaurant. There are two restaurants just a few steps away from each other. The original, Playa Cabana, is a little intimate house with a small patio out front. Hacienda is in a three storey house with a large patio at the side. Both restaurants are fun and lively. The food is really good and the no sugar added margarita's are the best! Both are about a 15 minute walk from the house.

A middle eastern restaurant. The food is really good, especially the roasted cauliflower. A bit pricey though. However it is just up the street from the house. There is a lovely patio at the back of the restaurant.

Schmaltz is more of a grab and go for brunch or lunch or even to bring home some smoked salmon, trout or whitefish with cream cheese and do it yourself. It's pricey on the fish but worth it. This restaurant adjoins Fat Pasha. It's open from 8 am until 7 pm.

This restaurant is a very popular destination for brunch. People line up for all day brekkie or Venezuela breakfast. They have weekly specials like Nacho Tuesdays and they have vegan and gluten free dishes. Condiments are home made. They also have a side patio. And they are a two minute walk from the house.

The ONLY place in town that sells alcohol. You will be able to find some local Ontario wine at one of our larger grocery store but the choice is very limited. These stores aren't on every corner, likely there is a store not far from the house, a 10 minute walk. The store is open from 10 am - 10 pm everyday except Sunday hours 11 am - 6 pm

Casa Loma is a beautiful museum. It's a 10 minute walk from the house to Casa Loma. Across the street from the main gates of Casa Loma is Spadina house, another museum with beautiful gardens. You can walk through the gardens free of charge but there is a fee to enter the house. Also the Casa Loma stables on one corner and the monastery on the other, both beautiful buildings. If you don't want to pay to go inside that ok too as it's a lovely walk to Casa Loma and the surrounding area.

The ROM. This is a very busy museum. There are wonderful exhibits. It's a beautiful walk through the Annex area to the museum, about 20 minutes. Or take the Dupont bus to St. George Station near the museum or the subway to Museum subway station. Once in that area there are many other museums like the Gardiner Ceramic and the Bata Shoe both are interesting museums. Plus the area is in the University of Toronto district which is always beautiful to walk through. Check the ROM schedule for current exhibits.
