This market is huge, make sure you go with an empty tummy as the food is fantastic. Lots to taste and buy. Go early as it is a very busy market. Open Saturday 8 am until 1 pm.

Beautiful secluded beach only a 20 minute walk from Kowhai Cottage. Best time to visit is morning or early afternoon as the sun goes down early over there. Safe swimming for everyone and there is a toilet at the beach. The walk down to the beach from the road takes about 10 minutes, there are steps and ramps - a little tricky with a pram.

Takaka is about an hours drive from Kohwai Cottage. The village is full of lovely little shops and the market on a Saturday from 9 am until 1.30 pm, just adds to the vibe, with local & Exotic Food, Art, Crafts etc

Take the Wilsons boat to Medlands Beach and hike back to Anchorage. This is one of our favorite walks to take our visitors on, the views are spectacular. the walk takes around 5 hours if you do all the little side trips on the way. The boat ride can be cold so take a jacket, especially if you want to sit up stairs in the open deck.

The boat ride can be cold so take a jacket, especially if you want to sit up stairs in the open deck.

The Upper Moutere Valley has glorious wine, stunning sheep cheese and olive oils. They grow gourmet mushrooms and make traditional cider from real cider apples. They also have leading ceramic artists, sculptors and basket makers. The Moutere Inn is the oldest pub in New Zealand and pours 14 artisan beers...what more could you want?

Takaka is the first village you come too, this has great little shops and cafes. further on you can drive to Collingwood, turning left or turn right and stop at Pohara and Tata Beach, both fantastic for swimming. Tata Beach has kayaks for hire at one end.
