Central Markets

Athens' Central Markets have an oriental style - with all the smells and sounds that go with it. You can find anything and everything you want in the market and the traditional stores which surround them. The two best examples are the Central Market in Kalithea and that of Piraeus.
Location for the Central Market of Kalithea. If you have the time a visit to the central market of kalithea is well worth it. This is a traditional central market with all the sounds and smells to go with it. If you go at around 2pm during the week you might find better bargains as the shops start to close up. You will find everything you can imagine in the markets and its surrounding little shops. Go out of the apartment building and turn left at the main entrance. Go straight until you reach the main road (Eleftherios Venizelos (also called Thisseos)). Cross (preferably turn left and cross the main road at the traffic lights as Athenian drivers don't always respect pedestrian crossings). Keep walking on Eleftherios Venizelos until you reach the next traffic lights and turn right. Turn right again at the first block or the second and you will walk into the central market.
