Food and Drink - Around the village

I have listed below some of our favorite places and activities and what we like about each of them. There are so many things to do and see around the area that these recommendations are by no means comprehensive however I hope they help give you some good ideas. We would love to hear from you if you find somewhere that you particularly enjoyed and would like us to include for the benefit of future guests.
Arguably the best-known landmark in the Village after the telephone box library. Next to the village green you can’t miss it. It has three restaurants, a sheltered walled garden, fitness centre, beauty spa and luxury 20-seat cinema. What we like: •The cinema – Small and intimate it seats 20 people. Order or take drinks to enjoy while watching a movie. Three films a day at 4pm, 6:30pm and 8:45pm. Films are normally older classics and occasionally they will show special sporting events outside the film times. Cost is £10pp however if you dine there it is free. To see what is on follow this link https://www.thehoste.com/information/things-to-do/cinema/ •The Pub – It is small but has a great atmosphere with the log fire going on cold nights. •Walled garden lunch – Walled garden is at the back of the hotel. Great for sunny day lunches. Pop into their Nelson Museum that is next to it. •Dog friendly

Some of the best food I have had anywhere. We love the place. It gets booked up really quickly so this is a definite phone and reserve ahead location. There is also an outside patio area for a sunny day drink or meal. Socius is located in Foundry Place which is behind the main road that goes through the village.. Open Wednesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. Sunday they are only open for lunch and it is their Sunday roast menu. On Sundays they even have a four legged friend menu where Rover can order his own barneys doggy roast dinner or Bacon/Beef frazzles.

No.Twenty9 Bar & Restaurant is located in the heart of Burnham Market, in a Georgian Grade II listed property dating back to the 18th century. What we like: •Breakfast in the walled garden at the back. Very dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the bar and lounge areas. They have a dog menu. •Their steaks are excellent. •Live music on a Friday night. Variable dates so check on the web.

Little neighbourhood bistro with big personality serving plates of proper food using classic French techniques and British produce. What we like: •Sunday lunch. The bistro is very small so booking ahead is essential. I think it is dog friendly – best to phone and ask.

Just off the village green. Excellent fishmonger selling the very best in locally produced smoked fish, shellfish and wet fish, mainly landed locally. Just above Gurneys and sharing an entrance is the Humble Pie

Excellent deli. Entry via Gurneys Fish shop. Great for stocking up on picnic goods to take to the beach. Fresh bread but it sells out fast. Lots of interesting delicious food on offer.

Five minutes drive from the cottage is Creake Abbey. It is home to a stunning Café and Food Hall, fantastic shops and studios plus an award winning farmers’ market together with the ruins of an Augustinian abbey founded in 1206. On the 1st Saturday of each month (excluding January) Creake Abbey hosts its award winning market. 50+ stall holders come with fresh local produce including meat, fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers in season, cheeses and much more. The Creake Abbey Café and Food Hall is open 7 days a week from 9am offering breakfast lunch and tea daily. The Food Hall offers bread, milk and cooking staples plush fresh vegetables, wine and beer together with a fantastic deli counter. Butchery is provided by Arthur Howell. Find unusual ingredients, sauces, mixes and foodie gifts too. We like: •The frozen food section. The Indian warm up meals are excellent and good for those days you don’t feel like cooking. •Breakfast outdoors. Soak up the sun and have breakfast outdoors overlooking the field which are good for bird watching. They will even lend you a pair of binoculars. •The deli and butcher. Large wholesome sausage rolls a personal recommendation.

It’s a deli and a store. Browse their eclectic collection of products then their deli produce and after grab something to eat in the deli. It has a nice outside section. Coffee is excellent. I’m not sure if they are pet friendly. If would be unusual if they don’t allow dogs however I have no first hand experience. We like: •Cake: Great range of cakes •Breakfast and lunch: Outside or inside. Their food is great •Browsing the shop and deli counter. •Ready meals

They are known for their seafood platters although all their fish dishes are excellent. Booking ahead on weekends and busy periods strongly advised. Closed on Mondays. Not sure on their policy regarding dogs. We like: •Small and informal •Sharing one of their famous seafood platters and a few extra sides.

Lovely Deli in Cley next the Sea. Great choice of local food - fresh bread, good wines, local milk etc. There is a shop car park at the rear which is a great help in Cley.
