This small French restaurant is great for breakfasts and very close. Just walk up Calle 7 ( the wrong way) and it's on the left next to the laundramat. Very nice and attentive staff.

Yoga every day here in a lovely terrace space over the restaurant. Great for a convenient place for delicious breakfast and lots of vegan/ vegetarian options. Say hi to the lovely Italian owner Paula for me.

Literally a minute walk after turning right onto Calle 7. Very cool entrance, and expansive garden area. Good food , but touristy price. If you have the budget, it's a nice place to hang out very close to the Villas.

Very cool coffee shop in a quiet area. Great for breakfast. Rivals La Pabeta for pasties and as not widely known by tourists , is well worth checking out. The strip that is located is good to have a walk around as well with Gypsy Market and other specially shops.

The best burritos in town! The tierra y mar burrito is my favourite. It's one minute walk from Alicat Villas - turn right then left onto Calle 7, and they are the first restaurant after the building for massages etc. Nicely decorated with maritime pictures etc. , this very convenient restaurant also has great cocktails. Be aware that your food usually takes about 15- 20 mins ( idk why) but worth the wait.

This is an excellent new Italian restaurant is on our street Calle 8. The staff are attentive and friendly and the service is quick. Just exit Alicat Villas and walk 3 mins and it's on the left with the strip lighting. Great set up for a group upstairs, they serve traditional italian style pizza and very good cocktails at reasonable prices. Say hi to Raul and the 2 Marcos for VIP attention. Open 1pm to 1030pm.

One block away on Calle 7 this great rustic local restaurant with home made pasta and really good pizzas. I am so pleased that a local restaurant of this standard has kept their prices to what they should be. Some of the new ones popping up are just too expensive. I want to support these guys. La Babieca
One block away on Calle 7 this great rustic local restaurant with home made pasta and really good pizzas. I am so pleased that a local restaurant of this standard has kept their prices to what they should be. Some of the new ones popping up are just too expensive. I want to support these guys. If you are after real local tacos at the correct price, just walk next door!! This street stall is open from 6pm to 11pm closed Sundays. You cannot beat this place for authentic delicious tacos, convenience, efficiency and friendly service.

The architecture of this place next to the OXXO Veleta has been very well thought out. Very cool, chilled place for drinks, limited menu after dark.

Now called Yafe but in G maps as Ia-fe suits Tulum. Just off the highway in La Veleta this is the only registered kosher restaurant in Tulum. Caters for all needs , beautiful pool and surroundings and lovely staff. Those who know about preparation of kosher meals would also know they come at a price, which is also the case here. You can also just have a beer around the beautifully designed pool.
ia-fe Suits
Calle 12 SurNow called Yafe but in G maps as Ia-fe suits Tulum. Just off the highway in La Veleta this is the only registered kosher restaurant in Tulum. Caters for all needs , beautiful pool and surroundings and lovely staff. Those who know about preparation of kosher meals would also know they come at a price, which is also the case here. You can also just have a beer around the beautifully designed pool.

3. Restaurants/Bars in the Hotel/Beach Zone
Other than Hotelito Azul, mainly these are not personal recommendations, as my budget does not really allow it ;) . These are high-end restaurants that are double the price ( or more) than those in Tulum town and often have min consumption fees. This selection has been recommended by past guests that could afford them. Reservations for the restaurants are highly recommended.
A fabulous restaurant if you want to treat yourself. Highly recommended by guests and lucky to go myself once. great seafood. Easier to get a reservation than Hartwood restaurant, if you can afford it , you won't be disappointed.

This is a famous restaurant with an excellent menu. Rustic ambience , you are going there mainly for the food , but I personally feel it was overated for the price.

This not well known Hotel has spectacular views of the coast line and the jungle from their terrace. Now with a large roof top infinity pool , this place is amazing. Down at beach level you can get your table or beach chairs and access to the beach. I think they now have a 50USD pp minimum consumption fee , but may waive that in low season. Easy to get to, but easy to miss : turn right off Kilkulkan and it's about 2 mins on the left with parking immediately after it on the right.

4. Things to see and do
Here are some of the cool things to do around Tulum recommended by myself and guests. Please let me know if you have other recommendations that should be added.
Impressive ruins and a closer option than Chitzen Itza. Here you can climb the pyramid. Check out the other side when you get to the top to see what it look like before they excavated it.
Hire the cheap bicycles provided there , it's too far to walk.

Amazing museum ( that used to be free, however reportedly now an entry fee) . Azulik is a trendy and very expensive hotel in the hotel zone but it's museum is great - just walking through the door is an experience.

Great snorkling to see turtles all year round.
They have put a gate in the first entrance and charge a fee. If you want to walk about 300 metres further you can get free access to the beach and then walk back to where the buoys mark the area to swim.
You do not have to hire life jackets and a guide ( just ignore the guides on the beach). However , please DO NOT touch the turtles or stand up while you are out there - the sea grass is the turtles food. If you need a rest, just swim to the buoy on the perimeter.

I recommend you to go early to avoid the crowds. Cenote Calavera is on the way to this cenote and worth checking out as well.

Calle 10 SurThis is a magical place to visit that is free to roam around in. It is only a few blocks from Alicat Villas and If you like art and a peaceful ambience, it is worth a visit. Just 10 mins drive away, this lagoon with a long jetty is a cool place to visit with it's emerald green water. Entrance is 300mxn.

This is my secret public beach access via the track opposite Potheads bar. If you have a car, from the freeway, turn right onto Ave Kilkukan and follow it for 15 min. At the T Junction turn LEFT onto the beach road. Go about 2 mins and on the right you'll see the sea with the big rock and cars parked on the right. This is free parking, but it is very important to park only off the paved road. If your tyres are on the paved road, you will be towed away. In high season, you will have to get there early to get a park. From here you have two choices, you can walk down to the beach where the rock is : great place for sunsets , and also continue to the right for about 20 mins ( there are some rocky bits) to get to the main Tulum beach. But to get to my Secret beach get to Potheads bar. If you can't get a free park, there is an off street parking area that you pay. Opposite that bar is an unmarked access to a lovely public beach next to the very expensive Azulik hotel. Enjoy!

A recommended and not well known cenote that was highly recommended by a friend and is on my list to go. 20 mins by car toward Chetumal. Read the reviews about it. It sounds great and away from the crowds.

Literally next door the Abarrotes El Quetzal grocery store, you can get basic snacks and alcohol. Then 24 hours OXXO convenience store , one minute walk . If you are going for a larger shopping experience, here are your options.
This huge supermarket ( like a Walmart) has everything you could need. Located on the other side of town , it costs 50 pesos each way from Alicat Villas in a taxi.
