If you've never seen elk in the wild, this is the place to do it. It's free of charge, not crowded, and offers a view of these majestic creatures against a gorgeous backdrop, with the serene Umpqua River behind you. Enjoy the beauty of seeing elk in their natural habitat. In our experience, it is best to go around sunset.

The sea lion caves are something fun to do for the whole family. Admission prices to get into the cave are fairly cheap, but the coolest part is that you get to experience seeing dozens of sea lions in the wild in one of the world's largest sea caves.
It's a little less than an hour drive from Lakeside, located in Florence.

Sea Lion Caves
91560 US-101The sea lion caves are something fun to do for the whole family. Admission prices to get into the cave are fairly cheap, but the coolest part is that you get to experience seeing dozens of sea lions in the wild in one of the world's largest sea caves.
It's a little less than an hour drive from Lakeside, located in Florence.
Food scene
Bedrocks on the Bay has the most amazing, flavorful clam chowder we have ever tasted. Ordering it in their signature sourdough bread bowl makes it complete. Their fish 'n chips and customizable pizzas are also equally as delicious. The best part is that you get to enjoy a view of the bay while eating your scrumptious food.
It's about a 12 minute drive from Lakeside, located in Winchester Bay.
Bedrocks On The Bay

You can't go wrong ordering anything from there, but their Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso Chicken, and curries are some of our favorites. The best part is that the plates are large enough to share and servers are really kind.
It's about a 15 minute drive from Lakeside, located in Reedsport.

Recreational activities
If you enjoy eating crab and would like to catch your own, next to the Fishermen's Wharf are boat docks where you can go crabbing. Grab a bucket, some crabbing nets and bait, and you can catch a ton of crabs for dinner. Oregon does have limitations on what kinds of crabs you are allowed to catch (and what sizes they have to be), so if you wish to go crabbing, please make sure to check this out beforehand.

Fishermen's Wharf
If you enjoy eating crab and would like to catch your own, next to the Fishermen's Wharf are boat docks where you can go crabbing. There are miles & miles of sand dunes within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.
If you decide to stay at our property, the dunes located off Spinreel Road offers the closest access point for off-roading and hiking access.
You can either bring your own, or rent all different kinds of off-roading vehicles from Spinreel Dune Buggy & ATV Rental. There are also other rental shops in the area, but Spinreel rentals is the closest to the Spinreel OHV Staging Area access point as it is located across from it.
It's about a 6 minute drive from Lakeside.
