People complain about the long wait and parking- until they get their food. Then they become delighted repeat customers - while on vacation! Call Ahead and call Uber - problems solved. The sheer number of people in line and their willingness to wait is not always an indicator of how "worth it" it is - but at Blue Water, it's legit. Do extensive research on where the best fish tacos are and find this establishment was the unanimous pick in blogs, travel sites, and news articles. The fish would be just as fresh if you had caught it yourself. Nothing is overwhelmed with seasoning and when you have seafood this fresh and local that's a good thing, let the freshness speak for itself.

Although chef Richard Blais told Zagat that his menu at Juniper & Ivy wouldn't use much molecular gastronomy, that doesn't mean the dishes aren't inventive and beautiful. Diners will find Dungeness crab with Meyer lemon curd and dill pollen decorated with locally foraged nasturtium; Carlsbad-harvested oysters served with charred tomatillo and horseradish ice cream pearls; and even a savory Dungeness crab beignet with "yuzunaise." But to focus on specific must-try items would do the menu a disservice. Since dishes change frequently - based on the availability of ingredients and/or the chef’s whim - it's hard to predict what might be offered on any given night.

A former dry cleaning store on Adams Avenue is reborn into premium gelato shop; with a look inspired by its past life as a dry cleaner but firmly focused on the business of creating frozen treats. Instead of shirts, An’s offers delectable scoops of handmade gelato crafted by a skilled gelato maker with over 12 years of culinary experience in Europe. Flavors are cleverly named after fabrics but inspired by seasonal farmer’s market offerings. Sourcing local ingredients for its all-natural flavors that will range from the traditional to unconventional…think goat cheese, cactus and even wasabi flowers

Parkhouse Eatery is a casual, elegant neighborhood eatery snugly nestled into the house that once held the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. The restaurant boasts three seating areas -- the outdoor garden patio, the front living room and the cozy hearth room -- each with its own casually romantic personality. Located on the outskirts of Hillcrest in University Heights, Parkhouse Eatery features the garden patio, the bright window-lit living room, or the cozy warm room with a wood-burning fireplace the locals call "the hearth room."

Gaston and GIlberto ( brothers/ owners/ operators) have combined focus and passion in their toasts. Their toast makers dedicate time into making sure your toast is picture perfect. All ingredients are fresh and local. The micro greens are amazing. The Sadie Rose bread is phenomenal (gluten free multi-grain loaves - delightful!). The menu provides a good selection of savory and sweet toast options, and they have a specials menu, too. They also work with JustCBD and sell CBD gummies, chocolate, protein bars, and hemp seed oil shots.

I've been eating burritos now for YEARS. Eaten burritos religiously for ages, and have run burrito blogs and reviewed hundreds of San Diego / Tijuana taco and burritos spots. THIS PLACE IS A CUT ABOVE. The tortillas are cooked to be a little crispy which is amazing. And the meat is marinated very distinctly and does not resemble any place around. The carmelized onions inside add another layer of crazy packed flavor. And most importantly it's all wrapped tightly not sloppy like a lot of other places. open until 2am on Friday and Saturday, hello late night tacos! ps This is not a walk-in place. It's a walk-up place. Be prepared to take your food with you.

European-inspired cafe will offer three types of waffles, a rectangular-shaped Brussels waffle, a gluten-free and vegan version, and a Liege waffle made with a brioche-style dough and studded with pearls of sugar. The all-day, counter-service menu ranges from savory waffle sandwiches, chicken and waffles, and a waffle riff on avocado toast to waffles topped with ice cream, fruits, and sweet sauces. Other bites include salads and traditional Belgian frites fried in beef tallow.

The city’s Grande Dame, the Hotel Del Coronado, sits on the most resplendent beach in the county. Coronado’s white sandy beach lies like a sparkling wedding train behind the Hotel Del. East Coast tourists looking for BEACH won’t be disappointed. The little hamlet of Coronado is fun to walk around and close enough to the beach to enjoy. Nightlife is very subdued to non-existent on the island. This beach is family oriented, tourist populated and almost never crowded due to its immense size and Island location.

San Diego has many canyons, but only one canyon with a bridge that sways in the breeze or underfoot. While the sense of vertigo from a seventy- foot drop isn’t for everyone, engineering aficionados and adventure seekers will be sure to enjoy walking, running, or jumping over this relic from 1912. Tips: this bridge is located near the Quince Street Bridge, which, while not a suspension bridge, is an interesting wooden trestle bridge that traverses yet another canyon, and is also worth a visit. Both Bridges are in the neighborhood of Bankers Hill less than 3 miles from the Emerald View room.

Check online to be sure this trail is open. Journey along this newly restored trail in San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve. The moderate-to-strenuous 1/4 mile 200 feet climb to a vista point offers panoramic views of the reserve and the Pacific Ocean. The joy is in the journey as steep switchbacks pass through the naturally sculpted sandstone walls and narrow slot corridors that "create a sense of mystery and wonder."

On the other side of Point Loma & largely hidden to tourists are the hiking trails that begin at the surfers parking lot (Sunset Cliffs Park) located at the very end of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. The drive or hike along the road getting to these trails is one of the most scenic in the city. Mansions line one side of the narrow winding road with cliffs. Sand & sea challenging the arrogance of mankind on the other. At the very end, there is a large public parking lot dotted with eucalyptus trees. A maze of trails winds back along the cliffs. At several points, there are steep trails providing access to small-secluded bits of beach. Ask a local surfer for guidance. This area is like a Zen experience.

This needs to be seen to be believed! Tucked beneath sandstone bluffs on the southern end of Luscomb's Point (adjacent to Sunset Cliffs Blvd, just north of Monaco St), is this curious chasm. Peer through the chain link fence to view the illuminated boulder-strewn cavern below. It's best to enjoy the cave from above and avoid the dangerous waves and currents below. Rumor has it that the cave was used to smuggle rum from Mexico to the houses above during the Prohibition era.

One of the most iconic buildings in San Diego, the Museum of Man, and the California Tower has some of the best views in the city. The tower has been REOPENED and is available to climb! The mystery here lies in why and how the California Tower was closed for a majority of the last hundred years. The best way to solve it? Take the tour and devise your own theories. Best time to tour without crowds is mid-week during the off-season, September-May.

Watch others defy death for free! Looking out over a nice view of the Pacific and the city and suddenly someone starts running. They get closer and closer to the edge and then they jump off the cliff. The wind then lifts them easily into the air and they fly further and further out over the water. It's something pretty magical to watch, free, and easy to get to. Visit at sunset and watch awe inspiring sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. There is no admission fee. Free parking on a dirt lot.
