My favourite local cafe and brunch spot is Five Points. It is located at 288A Harold's Cross Road which is a 5 minute drive or a 25 minute walk away. They serve tasty and unique food with Irish produce and take their coffee very seriously! There is also an outdoor area in the back as well as table out the front. Good vibes only & dogs welcome

Bibis - 14A Emorville Ave - 25 minute walk. Popular spot in the middle of the trendy neighbourhood of Portobello, this is a fantastic spot with really delicious food, the turkish eggs are a particular favourite of mine. Portobello would be a good stopping off point on your way into town but be warned Bibi’s can be extremely busy with long wait times.

Popular spot in the middle of the trendy neighbourhood of Portobello, this is a fantastic spot with really delicious food, the turkish eggs are a particular favourite of mine. Portobello would be a good stopping off point on your way into town but be warned Bibi’s can be extremely busy with long wait times.

It’s my new favourite spot, and you can always stop off for a drink at Green Man Wines, the artisanal wine bar at 3 Terenure Rd N on the way or as you’re heading home.

One of my favourite pizza spots would be Pi (73 - 83 South Great George's Street), a sitdown restaurant, regarded as the best in Dublin and a contender on the national stage. Please be aware its walk in only but there are plenty of spots to grab a drink nearby if you need to wait. Just leave your name and number, they text you when your table is ready, and you can check where you are in the queue at any time.

A traditional country pub in the heart of the city, the venue has played host to such musical legends as Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave, Christy Moore and Peter Buck and Mike Mills from REM and was the mecca around which my college social life revolved. There’s a variety of different spaces behind the big facade, the intimate Parlour Bar, a big smoking area in the interior courtyard and an indie disco in the back room after gigs, whose set list has remained the same as I’ve gotten older but will always make you dance. It’s been the home of many a great night out, where just the one becomes a 3am finish.

The Workman’s Club is closer to the city centre on Wellington Quay and would be another alternative venue that attracts a younger crowd. It’s a shabby chic late bar with fantastic drinks deals and fun, colourful decor.The Workman’s Club is also home to the beloved Wowburger joint in their outdoor area – serving delicious burger & chips.

So if you’re looking for a cheesy late night dance party with lots of shots & the chance to hook up with someone this is the place to go. It opens from 11pm but I wouldn’t recommend going until later in the night and a few drinks in!

It opens from 11pm but I wouldn’t recommend going until later in the night and a few drinks in!

Four Provinces - Ravensdale Drive - 20 minute walk. This is a pub attached to a local microbrewery so it doesn’t get much more local than that! They sell their own tasty beer as well as a host of other craft options. Irish craft beer is really undergoing a renaissance at the moment so I would recommend sampling some on your trip but don’t worry, they have a guinness tap too! It’s open since March and operates tasting clubs, trad music sessions and even pop up Gaeltachts for those wanting to speak Irish. A real local gem.

Do be aware the only serve craft beer so no Guinness or Heineken but trust me, you won’t miss them.

Neighborhoods
Dun Laoghaire
Dun Laoghaire is a coastal town in South Dublin. A walk of one of Dun Laoaghire’s two piers which encircle its 200 year old harbour is a classic Dublin day out, especially when topped off with a Teddy’s icecream, available from numerous kiosks or their original store. Alternatively you could sample some local fish & chips On Sundays there is a great food market in the People’s Park, a short walk from the pier, which has a wide variety of international cuisines on offer as well as fresh produce. Be warned it does get very busy! There is also a sit down cafe in the park which is located in a lovely pavilion and is open every day.
You can also go for a swim in Dublin’s historic Forty Foot bathing area or visit the James Joyce Museum which is located right beside it in one on Dublin’s martello towers, go sailing athte Irish National Sailing School located in the harbour, or rent a bike. Dun Laoghaire in one of my favourite spots in Dublin.
You can get to Dun Laoghaire by bus or by train, however there is not a direct connection from Crumlin. The DART journey offers spectacular views of Dublin Bay so if preferable in my opinion. The DART runs every 5 minutes during rush hour periods and every 20 mins during the day. The closest station to the house is Grand Canal Dock or alternatively you could get the bus into town and the DART out along the coast.
Dublin Bay Cruises also offer a ferry from the city centre out to Dun Laoghaire.
If you are interested in doing some sea swimming, my other favourite sports are Seapoint (you’ll need to check the tides for this spot and go during the few hours either side of high tide) and my all time number one, Hawk Cliff, off Vico Road in Dalkey.

You can also go for a swim in Dublin’s historic Forty Foot bathing area or visit the James Joyce Museum which is located right beside it in one on Dublin’s martello towers, go sailing athte Irish National Sailing School located in the harbour, or rent a bike. Dun Laoghaire in one of my favourite spots in Dublin.
You can get to Dun Laoghaire by bus or by train, however there is not a direct connection from Crumlin. The DART journey offers spectacular views of Dublin Bay so if preferable in my opinion. The DART runs every 5 minutes during rush hour periods and every 20 mins during the day. The closest station to the house is Grand Canal Dock or alternatively you could get the bus into town and the DART out along the coast.
Dublin Bay Cruises also offer a ferry from the city centre out to Dun Laoghaire.
If you are interested in doing some sea swimming, my other favourite sports are Seapoint (you’ll need to check the tides for this spot and go during the few hours either side of high tide) and my all time number one, Hawk Cliff, off Vico Road in Dalkey.
Howth
Another popular day trip would be out to Howth, also on the DART line to the north, and can also be reached from the city centre with Dublin Bay Cruises. There are a number of watersports available including stand up paddleboarding, diving and a boat trip out to the island of Ireland’s Eycliff. The cliff walking routes that are very popular as well. It’s a great sport for wildlife and you can visit The Baily Lighthouse – the last of Ireland’s lighthouses to become automated en route. Howth is particularly known for its many fine pubs and restaurants, with an emphasis on fresh seafood. My recommendations would be a hard earned pint at The Summit Pub after a bracing cliff walk. And descending down to the Brass Monkey down at the harbour or Aqua with spectacular views for a good meal.
