Sightseeing

One World Trade Center – also known as Freedom Tower. Located in the financial district in Downtown Manhattan it offers some of the most breath-taking views across the city. One World Observatory is home to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Everyone remembers where they were when they found out about 9/11 so what better way to honour this day than to pay homage to the victims at the Memorial & Museum. The One World Trade Center’s Museum also features a Permanent Collection with exhibitions of items donated as well as the incredible account from John Stiastny, one of the only survivors of the national disaster. The Foundation Hall contains a segment of the surviving wall of the original structure of the World Trade Centre and visitors can still see inscriptions, memorials, and missing posters from the aftermath in 2001. Outside visitors can also see the two memorial pools on the North and South end, the 80-foot Tridents columns as well as International flags which were suspended in the lobby of the original Twin Towers prior to the devastating incident. Nearby you can also visit the iconic Statue of Liberty and historic Ellis Island Immigration Museum to make the most of your New York experience. If you plan on arriving by Subway the stop is Fulton Street/Park Place or enjoy a Hop on Hop off Bus Tour experience and jump off at stop 11, 12, or 13 on the Downtown route. Alternatively, the address is 180 Greenwich St. World Trade Center should you be arriving by Taxi or car.

For the Art buffs! You can walk here from the Met! The Frick Collection. Internationally recognized as a premier museum and research center, the Frick is known for its distinguished Old Master paintings and outstanding examples of European sculpture and decorative arts. The collection was assembled by the Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick (1849–1919) and is housed in his former residence on Fifth Avenue. One of New York City’s few remaining Gilded Age mansions, it provides a tranquil environment for visitors to experience masterpieces by artists such as Bellini, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Gainsborough, Goya, and Whistler. The museum opened in 1935 and has continued to acquire works of art since Mr. Frick’s death. Adjacent to the museum is the Frick Art Reference Library, founded in 1920 by Helen Clay Frick as a memorial to her father. Today it is one of the leading institutions for research in the fields of art history and collecting.

Walk straight down 45th to Times Square where you will find entertainment on the streets. To the left, a couple of blocks is the theater district if you’re interested in seeing any broadway shows. I wouldn’t recommend eating in Times Square as everything will be overpriced. There are plenty of restaurants in Hell’s Kitchen all along 9th Ave. If you’re a foodie like myself and looking for fine dining, just ask! I can recommend some great Michelin starred restaurants in the city and even a great one in Brooklyn!
