Veliko Tarnovo’s pedestrian shopping street, where you will find many craft shops representing the Bulgarian Traditional art is called Самоводска чаршия (“Samovodska charshia”). The word чаршия, borrowed from Turkish, means “shopping square/street” and Samovodska comes from the fact that this road used to lead, and be largely populated by sellers from the nearby village of Samovodene.
You can walk up and down this lovely, narrow, timeless avenue, enjoying the authentic work of the masters in the craft shops and the uniuque architecture of the houses around.
