Lovely walk up the mountain and fabulous views of the lake and surrounding forests . Takes approximately 2 1/2 hours to get to the top and a lot less coming down ! Access is via mountain road just off Napier Taupo road , approximately 10 minutes drive from my house

Great place for a free swim in a natural thermal pool/ stream., and lovely walk along the riverside takes you to the Huka Falls, NZ's most visited natural attraction. Lockers (coin operated) to leave your clothes in while you enjoy soaking in the pools.

For the experienced hiker, and subject to weather conditions, but well worth the effort. 19km mountain crossing with the most spectacular views. Shuttle bus from Taupo is recommended as there is limited parking ( and it's a one way hike) . The right gear, boots clothing etc is essential as conditions can change very quickly.
