Coronado Island draws a lot of tourists, and you may be wondering why. It's home to a Naval Air Station and the U. S. Navy SEALS center, but it's not the military that attracts tourists. It's not Frank Baum's Oz House, Wallis Simpson's home or the Coronado Island Museum, either. It's not even the famous Hotel del Coronado. Most people go to Coronado for the white, sandy beaches that have earned it numerous ratings as one of the top ten beaches in the United States. Visitors also like Coronado Island for its quiet, laid-back simplicity and for its beautiful views of the downtown San Diego skyline.

Rising from 16 square-blocks in downtown San Diego, you’ll find the historic Gaslamp Quarter where Victorian-era buildings and modern skyscrapers stand side by side, housing more than 100 of the city's finest restaurants, pubs, nightclubs and retails shops, as well as offices and residential/work lofts. You’ll find every type of cuisine in the Gaslamp Quarter and options are plentiful for al fresco dining on the sidewalks of this dynamic and cosmopolitan district, sky-high at a rooftop lounge, or in an intimate and ornately designed fine dining restaurant. San Diego craft beer is also readily found in restaurants and pubs, and at stand-alone shops like Karl Strauss and Monkey Paw Brewery. For wine lovers, try Vin de Syrah Wine Parlor a fairly-tale like an underground urban lounge.

A bustling residential and business district since the 1920s, and once home to San Diego's prolific tuna fishing industry, today Little Italy is the hub of one of San Diego’s most dynamic and fastest-growing food scenes. The lively neighborhood is packed with distinctive eateries, craft brewpubs, urban wine bars, cocktail hotspots, and casual cafés, helmed by old school Italian families and Top Chef alums alike. For visitors and locals, a stroll through Amici Park and Mercato Farmers’ Market (Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) is not to be missed, preferably with gelato in hand.
