Restaurants

We are blessed with a wealth of fabulous restaurants here in north Cornwall. From Nathan Outlaw's Michelin starred venues to Rick Stein's culinary empire in Padstow (and much in-between), you'll be spoilt for choice. *Please be aware that many restaurants and cafe's do close during January for a few weeks, with many opening again around Valentine's Day for the season ahead*
Recently awarded a coveted Michelin star for 2021. Nathan Outlaw's characterful 15th century fisherman’s cottage restaurant overlooks the harbour at the bottom of Port Isaac. Opened in 2013, the menu offers unique dishes created from the freshest seafood caught that day. We've been many times and it's a gem of a restaurant – perfect for seafood lovers. Booking some weeks ahead is essential. Due to current distancing guidelines and the characterful, tiny space of the restaurant itself, they are cooking a fixed menu each day for a limited number of tables. Experience a journey of seafood plates for your table to share at £80 per person. With just 3 tables per sitting, spaces are limited. They take tables of up to 6 guests, and each reservation has 2 hours before we require the table back. No children under 10. Only the £80 per person menu on offer. They are operating with strict procedures in place to ensure the safety of staff and customers. Please read the terms before making a reservation. Reservations can be made up to 3 months (90 days) in advance using the online reservation system.

Beaches

North Cornwall is famed for its rugged coastline. There are vast sandy beaches, pebbly coves, some involve a scramble down rocks to access them, and others are hidden until low tide and only then is their beauty revealed. There truly is a beach to suit everyone.
If you fancy a surf, this is your beach, although it’s equally great for walking due to its vast size. Coastal paths are also accessible here. There are a couple of Surf Schools located on the beach to cater for all standards. Shops, cafés and restaurants are all opposite the beach. Car park is on the beach itself – don’t park too near the sea!

A truly awesome beach with huge looming cliffs. Great for walks and rock-pooling at low tide. The beach is inaccessible at high tide, but there's always the coastal paths to while away some time, taking in the fabulous views. The Port William pub is the perfect place to take in a summer sunset. Coastal paths on either side. Walk to Tintagel Castle from here – allow 2 hours.

Port Gaverne bay is a definite favourite of mine. It's a tiny pebbly cove, great for a beach BBQ when the tide is out. You can walk up onto the headland to take in the stunning views. There are a couple of restaurants here and it's just a short walk up the steep hill to Port Isaac. You can also access the Coast Path here.

A stunning beach that at low tide forms long stretches of golden sand backed by dunes from Daymer Bay to Rock with superb views across Camel Estuary. A favourite with all holiday makers and hard to beat on a beautiful, sunny day. Plenty of parking. Short walk and set of steps from the car park overlooking the beach.

Porthcothan beach is a north west-facing cove backed by grassy dunes popular for sunbathing and a favourite with families. The sandy beach opens out at low tide, and at high tide is very sheltered from swell and winds due to the cliffs. It is located south of Constantine Bay with the nearest village St Merryn only ten minutes drive away. The coast path gives splendid views to both the north and the south as well as displaying a variety of wildlife. Parking, shops and toilet facilities are all found here.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Crackington Haven is a small coastal village on the North coast just West of Bude. It is a great spot for surfing with the right conditions (lifeguarded during the summer holiday season). Visit in the spring to catch wild flowers and birdsong. Come in summer for bustling beach life. Spend time exploring and relaxing on the beach which is pebbly at high tide; enjoy a paddle or catch a wave on your boogie board. There is a bistro cafe and a family pub The Coombe Barton Inn and nearby toilet facilities and a small shop for beach items.

Please note: there is currently no access to Bossiney Haven due to a rock fall - the path to the cove is closed. The South West Coast Path (running east-west) remains open. Walk down to this beautiful little cove which is perfect for a bracing wild swim! Widemouth Bay is a very long, open bay popular with families and surfers. At low tide there are hundreds of rock pools to explore. Situated just 3 miles south of Bude and accessible along the South West coast path, Widemouth Bay offers fantastic conditions to learn surfing or body-boarding, which is why many of the local surf schools are based there. It has also received the Blue Flag Beach Award 2019. Get out into nature - local walks and trails

Cornwall boasts many wonderful walks and trails, some easy and relaxing, and some rather more arduous - the choice is yours. Luckily access to these is not far from Kovva Cabin....so lace up your walking boots and blow those cobwebs away!
An absolute must if you fancy a sedate cycle along a pretty much flat cycle route. Following a disused railway line once used by the London and South West Railway, the trail follows the Camel Estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge before joining the route through the deep and beautifully wooded Camel Valley to Bodmin. At Bodmin, yet another line, one of the most historic in the country, winds its way inland to the edge of Bodmin Moor where it comes to an end below Blisland, a pretty moorland village with an award winning pub. Take in the beautiful landscape and wildlife, and access to towns provide opportunities to use local shops, pubs and visit attractions. We love going from Wadebridge to Padstow on our bikes for a pasty, and if you don't have your own you can easily hire bikes in Padstow, Wadebridge and Bodmin, however walking is also very enjoyable. The nearest bike rental to Kovva Cabin is Bridge Bike Hire in Wadebridge, or go to the Snail's Pace Cafe at Wenford Bridge, but do phone them beforehand to reserve your bikes (Snail's Pace is also seasonal, but a beautiful place to start when they are open).

The South West Coast Path itself is 630 miles long and is the longest National Trail in the country. Starting at Minehead in Somerset it runs along the coastline of Exmoor, continuing along the coast of North Devon into Cornwall. It follows the entire coastline of Cornwall, goes across the mouth of the River Tamar and continues into Devon. After running along the south coast of Devon it then follows the Dorset coastline before finally ending at Poole Harbour. https://www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk/walksdb/278/ - this link takes you to a lovely 5 mile walk taking in Pentire Point and the Rumps, but do search the website for other wonderful north Cornwall walks, for all abilities. We love walking from Trebarwith to Tintagel - about 3 hours there and back, taking in some stunning coastal views.

We walked past Chapel Porth beach (a cafe is there if you need refreshments or a swim) and up to the viewpoint, before heading back and viewing the disused tin mines that make Wheal Coates popular. Perfect for wandering around, soaking up the history of the Agar-Robartes family, who made the house their home, and how their fortunes changed during the First World War.
