One of the most beautiful tracks in the world .
We recommend you drive to the Ketetahi carpark and get a shuttle from there to the beginning of the track.
This car park is at the end of the track. The advantage of this is that you do not need to be back at set time and you have your car waiting when finished.
There are several shuttle companies all priced at around $35 per person. We do not have a recommendation as to which is best. I would go with one that offers a secure or security patrolled carpark.

Definitely a must see! The Huka Falls are the largest falls on the Waikato River, near Taupo on New Zealand's North Island.
It is the most visited natural attraction in New Zealand!
The Waikato river is one of New Zealand's longest rivers and it drains Lake Taupo - the largest freshwater lake in all of Australasia.
At the Huka Falls, the Waikato River which is normally 100m wide, is forced through a 20 metre wide gorge and over a dramatic 20m drop.
Every second up to 220,000 litres of water gushes through the gorge and shoots out over 8 metres beyond to create a beautful blue/green pool.
The name Huka is the Maori word for 'foam', which is appropriate as the falling water and rapids certainly resembles foam, especially under flooding conditions.

A great way to get the best of the views.
The first 10km of the trail (Orakau trail) is a nice gradual downhill which takes you through stunning native wetlands before dropping you into the secluded Kawakawa Bay. This is a great place to stop for morning tea or lunch, and during summer is the perfect place for a swim. You can also camp here. For those that would prefer an easy ride, you can book the water taxi back to Kinloch from Kawakawa Bay. If you’re keen to carry on, a 3km climb up onto the Te Kauwae headland is rewarded with sweeping views of the lake and western bays, before you begin the fast-flowing descent to Kinloch along the K2K trail.

Craters of the Moon is a geothermal walkway with Lunar Landscapes - Hence its name. Craters of the Moon showcase the natural thermal activity of Taupo including bubbling craters, steam vents and colourful soils. 45+ minutes walk.

The Sky Waka gondola travels 1.8 km’s through one of the North Island’s most rugged and spectacular landscapes high on Mt Ruapehu, past waterfalls in summer and snow-laden peaks in winter.
The ride is spectacular in the summer months with stunning mountain views of Mount Ngauruhoe, Mount Tongariro, Mount Ruapehu and if you're lucky you might get a glimpse of Mount Taranaki out on the west coast. The gondola travels from the Top of the Bruce base area directly to the newly renovated Knoll Ridge Chalet. At the top there is much to discover and be amazed by. Stretch your legs with a walk, check out the locally carved POU and embrace some NZ culture or fill your belly with some delicious food from either the Pātaka Cafe or The Pinnacles restaurant.
Please note that in the winter season snow blankets the surrounding area of the gondola. However in summer you will be able to explore amongst volcanic rock and be amazed by stunning waterfalls.
