At the top of the fort, you will have a gorgeous ocean view. There is also a souvenir shop by the entrance as well as many walking trails through the trees and dunes in the area. Fort Macon beach is also known for great fishing. If traveling as a family, keep a close eye on small children as this is a military fort without rails or fences on the ledges.

Fort Macon does not allow food inside the fort, but having a picnic near Fort Macon is possible outside at one of the picnic areas. There is a side entrance on the right before reaching the fort with picnic tables and beach access. There are also tables near the fort.
