A lovely old fishing town. Gives its name to he famous Battle of Hastings in 1066. Steeped in history. Ruined Norman castle. Lots to do for families whether wet or dry. Visit the Aquarium then go up on the cliff lift for St Clements Caves, and wonderful views. In the caves you'll see a special display of smuggling memorabilia, and items used by George "Smack" Gillham head of the Little Common Smugglers whose family once owned the Ark Holiday Cottage, then used as a carpenter's workshop. Finish your visit with a tasty fish and chip meal at one of the many shops that line the seafront!

Rye is an ancient small town, and a must to visit. Originally an important cinque port it is now primarily a magnet for tourists visiting this area of East Sussex. Mermaid Street is a very pretty, much photographed, cobbled road in the heart of the town. The famous Mermaid Inn built circa 1400 AD can be found near the top of the street. There are plenty of other things to do and see in this town.
