Subways are a great option to get around IF there is a station close to where you are going. Rio has new, but very few subway stations.

Do not take bike for transport
Take a bike as a sight seeing option around the lagoon or at the beach. Do not take a bike around the city outside of bike lanes. Car, busses and pedestrians are not respectful of bikes.

Taxis are better option than uber.
Many uber drivers have no idea how to get around the city. Taxis may be a safer option. Waze is usually good as well, but beware not to get lost in a favela. Choose routs that take you through main roads.
