Relaxing activity

One of my favourite beaches is Point. (Drive down Da Gama towards PE and turn right into Pagoda street, turn right into the parking lot). Point beach is in front of this parking lot. I like to take an umbrella, picnic blanket (in the white cupboard next to the patio sliding door), good book and some snacks and settle in on the beach. Often parents come with their kids and dogs and play in the rock pools. If there are some waves, you will also see surfers paddling out for a surf. I swim in the gully and then dry off under my umbrella. Early in the day, especially in summer, is usually beautiful and less windy.

A beautiful beach called "lang sand" or long beach. Drive down Da Gama Rd towards PE and turn right into Kabeljauws Rd. Park at the lagoon and take yourself on a walk. You can walk for hours down the beach. It is safe and unspoilt. Early mornings you will be very likely to bump into people who are walking their dogs on the beach. On weekends there are fisherman along the beach as well. We also recommend renting a "fat bike". This is a bicycle with fat tyres that are suitable for riding on the beach. This activity is especially nice on the weekends, early morning (or wind-less days) around low tide, when the sand is more hard. You can contact Tyron to book a fat bike: 083 661 5393. In some seasons, there are flamingos on the lagoon and you may see people in kayaks or exploring the beach via horses. If there is enough water in the lagoon, it makes a great place to hang out and swim with little children, since the water is calm and there is a gradual slope, meaning there is lots of shallow water spots. Be sure to take an umbrella if you want to do this with the kids since there are no trees to provide shade.

Within walking distance from Rosa's is Dolphin beach. You can access it via the lane in-between the houses marked with a sign saying "beach path" (opposite 12 Diaz rd). It takes you past Kitchen windows restaurant and to the beach. We recommend people walk along the beach towards Port Elizabeth. In this direction there are lots of shells, something Jeffreys Bay is very well known for. We even have a shell museum. If you feel like a longer walk, keep going untill you see a big parking lot with a Checkers supermarket behind it. There are a few restaurants (Ninas) that do good breakfasts. We don't recommend you walk past the point (in the direction of Cape Town) since it has been unsafe at times. Around Dolphin beach there are also lots of restaurants and fun activities for kids (and adventurous adults) like mini-gholf and a super tubes (water slide).

The resere is open during the beach lockdown period between Dec and Jan 2021. There is a beautiful reserve along the Kabeljous lagoon which is a very short drive just outside Jeffreys bay. There are signs of where to park and a map with all the trails in the reserve. A nice trail is to the look-out point which takes you up on the dunes overlooking Jeffreys Bay. You can also take one of the trails to the beach and go for a swim. The Kabeljouse Reserve Action Group (KRAG) organises full moon walks every month. It is a fun activity where everyone gathers to eat snacks and watch the full moon rise.

Jam-packed to the roof with mint-condition, second-hand books at affordable prices. You can spend hours just browsing in here. The owners always seem as if they have read all the books and are really knowleadgable.

Sightseeing

Jeffreys Bay is world-famous for its surf-break: Super Tubes. Once a year the world's professional surfers stop here to compete in the world's annual surf tour. This is a beautiful surf break to watch, even if you don't surf. So if there are offshore winds (South-west) and big swell conditions (>3m), take yourself to Super Tubes to watch people surf a beautiful wave. On some sections, in the right conditions, the surfer can disapear in a "tube", meaning the wave is hollow enough that the surfer can surf inside a barrel. This is every surfer's dream and it is fun to see this happen.

OPEN during the beach lockdown period that is place from Dec to beginning of Jan 2021. This is quite a memorable experience. Located 10 km outside of Jbay, Papiesfontein offers you horse rides with experienced guides through fynbos and then along a wild, unspoilt and remote section of beach. It offers some adrenalin and lots of nature beauty. The guides provide you with a horse that suits your "riding" abilities.

Open during the beach lockdown period between December and January 2021. This sea trip is offered in Port Elizabeth but can easily be turned into a day-trip from Jeffreys Bay. Many people take this commute every day to work. Alternatively, make it a one-night stop on your way to Addo or Kruger. Climb on a boat and explore the ocean around Algoa bay, known as the Bottlenose Dolphin capital of the world. Not guaranteed, but potential to see a plethora of sea life including whales, dolphins and birds including the critically threatened African penguin ( a real cutie). It is advisable to bring a jacket for sea spray and wind.
