Mevagissey is a working fishing village, full of friendly locals and great places to eat that make the most of the delicious local produce. Wander the winding streets, peruse the antique shops and galleries, the take a break on the harbour walls with a Kelly's Cornish ice cream or fresh Cornish pasty from the bakery. You can buy seafood from kiosk on the quay, freshly landed by local fishermen that day. You might be lucky enough to spot to resident seal. We love eating at the Sharksfin or Tea on the Quay, looking out at the fishing boats in the harbour, or tucking into delicious fish and chips from The Fountain Inn. There is a lovely walk along the coastal path towards Pentewan ... if you are feeling brave you can go down the steps to the hidden beach.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan give you a taste of the exotic, just 5 minutes drive from Mevagissey. It has a fascinating history, abandoned during the war, only to be rediscovered and brought back to life years later. We love visiting in May/June to see the gigantic rhodedendrons, and seeing what's growing in the fruit and vegetable gardens. There are jungle-like gardens to explore including a rope walk and stunning sculptures in the woods that look like they are growing from the ground.
