From the house, it's very convenient to commute by car anywhere in the city, biking is the local's preferred method of getting around, there are buses and the streetcar, lots of great places to stroll around during the day. I don't recommend walking around at night, in places where there aren't alot of people. If you're driving in the city, watch out for the potholes! Closest grocery is Robert's Fresh Market right on St. Claude.
