Trebarwith has a rich industrial heritage from the 1800's when they quarried slate along the cliffs. This is visible from the coast path between Tintagel and Trebarwith Strand. The beach is tidal but it extends to almost a mile at low tide. It is safer to bathe after low tide when the tide is coming in. The Port William public house is owned by St Austell Ales and offers a good choice of ales, good food and amazing views.

The Weir is surrounded by great walks and cycling routes. We usually park our car there and then walk along the canal path. It goes into Bude Centre. It is great to see the canal boats passing as you walk. We then return for a well earned coffee and bite to eat. They have a great selection of food on their menu and there is lots for the children to see do whilst you sit and enjoy the location. In the winter the log fire makes it even more homely.

Follow the river Trevillett through this narrow gorge, originally known as Crockett's Tor Valley which dates back to the Upper Devonian Age (377-363 million years ago). Crags, smooth rocks, gullies, cataracts and deep chasms have been formed from the river's erosive power. Further up the valley maze cravings can be found on a rock face behind the ruins of an old roman mill.

A popular medieval village with an Elizabethan harbour. This is still a fishing village, in the past it was a small part of importing limestone and coal as well as slate and other local produce. The Rivers Jordan, Valency and Paradise flow through the village. On the edge of the cliff you will see the white lookout built around 1827. It is now used Coastwatch volunteers.

Tintagel is a magical place and it has endless walks for all abilities. If you are feeling more energetic you could walk to Port Isaac or if you feel like a more sedate walk then Tintagel to Trebarwith still offers spectacular views. The Visitors Centre can always point you in the right direction but make sure you have suitable footwear, a drink and mobile phone.

Tintagel Castle dates back to the Romans. It is believed to be the birth place of King Arthur which is why you will see so many places named after him. At the base of Tintagel Castle lies Tintagel Haven which is a small and sheltered tidal pebble beach. It is a good place to snorkel or swim. You may even see grey seals. This is also a dog friendly beach.

Davidstow Airfield was built during the Second World War. The three runway airfields are still visible and surrounded by 700 acres of moor and farm land. At 970ft above sea level it used to be the highest airbase in the country. After the war it was used as a motor racing circuit and in the 1950's three Formula 1 races were held there. The main control tower still stands but the main attractions are Crowdy Reservoir, Roughtor and Brown Willy. There is also a RAF Memorial Museum that is worth a visit.

If you want to get away from traffic and roads then why not visit the Camel Trail and head towards the estuary to Padstow. You can hire a bike from Wadebridge or just walk part of the trail.

Most people think about the filming of Doc Martin but from the Middle Ages to the mid 19th century it was a busy coastal port with cargoes of stone, coal, timber and pottery, apart from fishing. There are still fishermen working from there. You will struggle to find fresher crabs and fish if you visit Fresh From The Sea in New Road, Port Isaac. Nathan Outlaw also has a restaurant called Outlaw's Fish Kitchen in Middle Street, Port Isaac.

Crooklets Beach is just over 16 miles from Lowena. It has a huge expanse of golden sand and lots of rockpools to explore. It is also popular with surfers. Three miles north of Bude you will find Northcott Mouth Beach, owned by the National Trust, which has cliffs on both sides which makes it feel like a little cove. Children love the little stream which runs down through the beach. Five miles north of Bude is Sandymouth Beach, owned by the National Trust, with its dramatic clifftop views. The walk down to the beach is quite steep so not ideal if you are not very mobile. Six miles north of Bude you will find Duckpool Beach. Swimming and surfing are not recommended because of the dangerous currents and sharp rocks.

A popular place for swimming, surfing or body boarding. There is a railed ramp for access to the beach for the less mobile. On the south side of the bay is Black Rock Beach, named after the rocky outcrop. Millook Beach, a three minute drive away, is one of the best wild beaches in Cornwall. On a good day you will see seals, dolphins, birds of prey and waders. If you are interested in geology then it is worth a visit to see the folding and faulting rocks.
