If you LOVE meat this is the place for you. Think hare, pheasant, etc. unusual and wonderful. They do have a vegetarian option as well. As a starter they have a port on the menu, how genius is that!

Located upstairs on Ponsonby road this is a food hall with some delicious international cuisines. The vermicelli salad (Bun Chay) from the Mekong Vietnamese is one of my favorites, the roti curry from one of the Malaysian shops is pretty darn good as well. You can also grab a beer or wine from the drinks shop.

They don't take bookings so don't hit this place starving at peek times. Order the sliders, they could change your life. If they still have the Hapuka belly, go there. Freshly shucked oysters, why not? We're celebrating. Honestly anything you get is going to be a little bit of heaven. Oh, and there's wine on tap. If you have tickets to a show in town, this is where you start your evening.

The market itself has a good variety of food - the buffalo mozzarella, the empandas and alfajores, the coffee, the heirloom vegetables, or a venison hotdog and the organic grape juice are just a few suggestions of things to try. Horse rides for the kids.
If time isn't an issue take the coastal road back to the city with plenty of stops along the way.

Right on the front doorstep of the apartment, this is a beautiful park to walk through up to Ponsonby road. The playground is an absolute winner from the smallest child to the biggest adult kids out there.

If you have kids, there is an estuary which can be a great place to play (not on outgoing tides). Great places to stop along the way, Matakana markets if you time it right, on the return a pizza & beer at Leigh sawmill. Its a good idea to take food & water (or purchase it in Matakana), there is a shop at the camping ground if you need more supplies.

Spectacular black sand beach, great fresh air, walk up Lion rock. Breathtaking. Great swimming but be aware of rips, swim between the flags! Cafe & shop all there.

The glowworm, Arachnocampa luminosa, is unique to New Zealand. Thousands of these tiny creatures radiate their unmistakable luminescent light throughout the caves.
2.5hr drive from Auckland CBD.
There are loads of tours and different packages you can go on.
