Fort Funston is an amazing 2-mile loop hike that starts at the top of a cliff through sand dunes and California chaparral, goes through the beach, and back up to the trailhead. It is an off-leash dog trail, so it is great for dog lovers. The best time to go is just before sunset.

This 3-mile hike is less common with tourists than the hikes that go to the vista point at the top of the cliff above the beach, but it is arguably better! The hike to the beach is downhill, and the return is a moderate uphill climb. Like most beaches in Northern California, the water isn't warm, but the view is spectacular!

Crissy Field has great views of the Golden Gate Bridge (when it's not foggy!). We recommend parking at East Beach and walk west along the path or on the sand to the Warming Hut (a good spot for a hot cocoa and a souvenir), walking back east along the sidewalk up to the Tunnel Tops to grab a snack or a beverage at one of the cafes, and back down.
