This is the highest mountain road in the United States. It runs steeply past the beautifully situated Echo Lake to the alpine pastures on Mount Evans (14,266ft/4,348m). From the summit there are breathtaking panoramic views out over the mountains and valley below. A variety of wildlife also frequents the area. At these elevations, it is not uncommon to see mountain goats, bighorn sheep, marmots, and pika.
