Sightseeing

Take a stroll along Roker pier on a sunny day and you may be lucky enough to see dolphins which often visit the waters near by in the summer months. For those who visit in the colder months watching the waves crash into the pier and lighthouse is equally awe inspiring.

St Peter's church is a 15-20 minute stroll from the property and has some amazing history. The Grade I listed building was built in 674-5 AD as one of two churches of the Benedictine double monastery of Monkwearmouth–Jarrow Abbey. Built at the request of Saint Benedict Biscop who brought glass making to Sunderland, St Peter's church is a great place to visit alongside the Nation Glass Centre to learn about Sunderland's glass making heritage.

Herrington country park large park adjacent to Penshaw Monument. It is a 15-20 min drive from the apartment, and a great place to take a picnic. It provides a home to a significant number of wildlife as it has a large lake in the centre where you can often see swans, ducks and other birds. There is usually an ice cream van parked near the lake so you can treat yourself to a sweet treat after a stroll around the park.

Stadium of Light is home to the greatest football team ... in my opinion. Be sure to get a ticket to watch the Black cats play in one of the 40,000 seats.

Penshaw Monument sits upon Penshaw hill adjacent to Herrington country park. The 70 foot monument is a replica of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens and a beloved icon of the Wearside area as it can be seen for miles around. The climb to the top definitely works up an appetite and I would recommend a slice of cake from the Penshaw tea rooms upon your descent.

Roker Marina is a 5 minutes from the property and is lovely to walk around on a warm day. There is also a lovely Italian restaurant (Marina Vista) and tea rooms (Snow Goose) should you wish to have a bite to eat after your walk.
