Derry is a historic city with stunning medieval walls that can be accessed at multiple points in the city and give some stunning views. While many tours (bus/taxi/walking) are available it’s also very easy to pick up a map in the tourist office and explore by yourself. The main defining characteristic of Derry is the friendliness of its people so don’t be surprised if you find yourself chatting and smiling more than usual.

Sightseeing

Almost destroyed by flooding in 2016 Swans Park has been rebuilt better than ever. Paths flank both sides of the river and connect at a bridge about half way down the path. Surrounded by trees and populated by local wildlife it’s perfect for a gentle stroll, a great spot for picnics, ideal for painting or just sit on a bench and watch the world go by.

Inishowen is probably best known for its multitude of stunning sandy beaches and quiet coves. The entire peninsula is a nature lovers paradise with walks and nature trails, wildlife reserves, bird sanctuaries, swimming, surfing, kayaking, sailing, diving and horse riding all easily accessible. Add to this the abundance of historical sites from ancient Grianan of Aileach to the militaristic Fort Dunree and every era in between - there is always something to learn There is also the opportunity to chase your own past and discover some Donegal roots in the genealogy centre in Clonmany.

Behind the fort you will find a wee worn track that leads to St Patrick’s well. The water is believed by locals to be healing if dabbed on. Whether or not there’s any truth to this you’ll have to decide yourself. Regardless it’s well worth the walk for the views alone.
