Want a half day trip adventure to an out of the way, back country restaurant/pub? Then this is ‘The Place’ for you! (*Not open on Mondays) Make sure you have a full tank of gas first and there is no cell service so you’re on your own… a sweet adventure! If you have a 4WD or an AWD and good, sensible off-road driving skills… you can go west on Mil Potrero Hwy out of Pine Mtn about 4 miles to Quatal Canyon. Weather and (dirt) road conditions permitting.. Go west into Quatal Cyn and drive the 25 miles through the wilderness and the beautiful, rugged scenery to Hwy 33. *Do not go off the main dirt road or you could get stuck/stranded* It’s a slow decent but there is plenty to see; lots of photo opportunities; and just relaxation time. Once you get to Hwy 33 turn right and go about 3 miles to ‘The Place’! (On the left side of the hwy). They have cold beer on tap; wine; burgers; bbq; homemade pies and more. You may even get to see the Pie Baker herself VICKY! Tell her Wendy sent you. Then if you don’t want to head back through Quatal Cyn, and would prefer a paved road then continue North on Hwy 33. You’ll see the Santa Barbara Pistachio store, stop by, and once back on hwy 33 you’ll get to Hwy 33/166. Turn right and in about 5 miles you’ll see the signs to Hudson Ranch Road.. turn right on Hudson Ranch Road and this will take you back to PMC. This is a beautiful trip UP the mountain and you may even see a condor or two on the way up. Enjoy!

If you have the driving skills and an 4x4 or AWD you can get to the very top of this mountain range, on the San Andreas Fault, that over looks the San Joaquin valley. Pack a lunch or dinner and eat at one of the picnic tables at the top. It’s only about 15 minutes (UP) from the cabin. Go west on Mil Potrero Hwy and you’ll see the signs. Once off the paved road it’s a dirt road and Marian is 3 miles up.

This is a bit of a drive from Pine Mtn Club (about an hour) but it’s beautiful place to visit during spring. There are breathtaking wild flowers in all their glory and you won’t be sorry. The drive down and back up the mountain is stunning and you may even spot a huge California Condor or two so it’s win win.

One of my favorite places

It’s in the middle of nowhere but this little shelter, in Lebec, is absolutely wonderful. I volunteer here, as well as many other locals. We love that they are consistently helping lost or abandoned dogs & cats find homes.
