Enjoy spectacular mountain views of Grandfather Mountain and Linn Cove Viaduct, with distant views into the Piedmont, from the hike on Rough Ridge. Just a 1/3-mile uphill hike from the parking area (Milepost 302.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina) is a boardwalk atop the rocky mountain that protects fragile vegetation. Continue hiking for another 1/2 mile to the Rough Ridge summit (4,773 ft. elevation). The views keep getting better! There are several large boulders along the trail that you can sit on to take in the views. Take a picnic! At the summit, the highest rock has cables to help you reach the top. Total elevation climb from the parking area is 480 ft.

A scenic drive and engineering marvel. Several hiking trails along this stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Beacon Heights Trail at milepost 305.2 offers nice views. Stack Rock Hiking trail at milepost 304.8 gives a good view of the underside of the viaduct. The stack rock chimney and waterfall make it worth the hike. Our Favorite Hikes on Beech Mountain
LOWER POND CREEK TRAIL A 5 minute drive away, this is our favorite trail on Beech Mountain, Beautiful waterfall views along the trail. 1.2 miles of very rough/steep terrain, not good for young children or anyone who is a fall risk.
UPPER POND CREEK TRAIL. The entrance is right next to Lower Pond Creek. Has a neat village of miniature figures.
EMERALD OUTBACK Several miles of great trails at the top of the mountain. Great for hiking and biking.
BUCKEYE LAKE LOOP 2 mile trail around the lake at Buckeye Rec Center

Winter Weather and Driving
If you are coming in the winter it's quite likely you will encounter snow! You can check current weather and driving conditions a couple ways:
1. Check out the resort cam: https://www.resortcams.com/webcams/beech-parkway/
2. Call the Beech Mountain Police Department non-emergency number and ask about road conditions: (828) 387-2342
We strongly recommend Four Wheel or All Wheel Drive in the winter months. If that's not an option then definitely have snow chains available for your vehicle. See the store listings section for the Exxon And High South Wrecker contacts for snow chains.
