Fortunately for us, that means that most of the Forgotten Coast has been preserved, and instead of offering high rise condos, strip malls, and water theme parks, visitors will find sugar white beaches, pristine bays, coastal marshlands, estuaries rich with sea life, and barrier islands with impressive dune formations. We welcome you to our small piece of

A nature lover’s paradise, this park is great for birding and wildlife viewing. Visitors will also find a secluded beach, nature trail, canoe/kayak launch, a fishing dock, and picnic pavilions to enjoy lunch. This state park is 4 miles from our home.

Bald Point State Park

While there are many things to do nearby, one of our family favorite day trips is visiting Apalachicola, or as the locals say, "Apalach." This laid back, coastal town is about an hour drive, but a scenic ride with water views most of the way.
Once you arrive to Apalachicola you are greeted with small town hospitality from everyone you meet. Downtown is lined with boutiques full of antiques, clothing, home décor, and souvenir treasures to bring home with you. While you are here, visit the museums and historic buildings and landmarks in the area to learn more about Florida's unique history. You can also check out the Chapman Botanical Garden located
next to the historic Orman House.
Once you have worked up an appetite, stop in at any of the many restaurants located downtown and enjoy some of the best, fresh seafood Florida has to offer. There is even an ice cream parlor for dessert. If you'd like to enjoy an adult beverage, check out Oyster City Brewing company, a brewery proud to brew the "local beer."
We hope that if your agenda calls for a day trip, you will consider checking out Apalachicola, and possibly fall in love with it the way we have.
