Sightseeing

Asolo is the "pearl" of Veneto region.. Carducci defined it "the city of a hundred horizons" because of the beauty of the landscape, the one Giorgione reproduced several times in his canvases. A charming medieval village nestled among the hills of Treviso, Asolo was a magnificent Renaissance court at the time of Caterina Cornaro. This town was deeply loved by two other great women: the actress Eleonora Duse, also known as the "Divine" and the English writer and explorer, Freya Stark. Both lived in Asolo and are buried in the cemetery of Sant'Anna. Strolling through the winding and quiet alleys, tourists will find subtle traces of the distinguished guests who appreciated its inspiration, such as the English poet Robert Browning, Pietro Bembo, one of the most famous scholars of the sixteenth century and the musician Gian Francesco Malipiero, who found inspiration for some of his compositions. The Fortress is the symbol of Asolo. It dominates the landscape from the summit of Monte Ricco, offering a spectacular view over the Old Town. From here you can see the historic centre of the town: Piazza Garibaldi with its sixteenth century fountain, the Castle that currently houses Teatro Duse, and the ancient Cathedral, house of the beautiful "Assumption" by Lorenzo Lotto. The Civic Museum, the fifteenth century Palazzo della Regione, the sixteenth century Villa of the Armeni and the prestigious City Hall, Palazzo Beltramini are also worth visiting. Just outside the town center, golf enthusiasts can practice on a challenging and charming 18-hole course

MONTE GRAPPA with its 1,775 meters is the highest peak of the group surrounding it, making up part of the Veneto Prealp region, isolated between the rivers Brenta and Piave. Just half an hour from the house. Monte Grappa gained significant importance during the First World War of 1915-1918 when, in 1917 it became the front-line of defense against the Austrian troops who, after the battle of Caporetto, were looking to conquest the river Piave and control the mountain area. It is at this location that the attacks of the Austrian troops began on the 13 November and continued for 10 days, with great losses on both sides of the lines (read more on the website). In honour of the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the homeland, immediately after the war, the Ossarium was erected, trusting its construction to the same engineers that designed the gallery Vittorio Emanuele III. Work began in October 1925, it was sospended due to water infiltrations, and in 1931, using a modified plan that excluded the gallery from the structure, work began once again. The opening ceremony was performed on the 23 September 193

Treviso is a city to visit in any season, with the slow pace of those who want to savour every corner, discover original views, and breathe the peaceful city life. Piazza dei Signori is the heart of the city and a meeting place for the locals. The Palazzo dei Trecento and the elegant Loggia Dei Cavalieri can be found in this piazza. The rivers Sile and Cagnan that slip between the streets give a unique charm to the old town surrounded by ancient walls. The houses with their beautifully painted facades reflect on the Buranelli canal and the Isola della Pescheria, which was created in the river Cagnan to accommodate the fish market and shows that Treviso has a close relationship with its water. The Duomo is a remarkable monument and the frescoes by Pordenone and an altar piece with the Annunciation by Titan can be found in its Malchiostro chapel. Other treasures are enclosed in the Museum of Santa Caterina dei Servi di Maria, including the story of Sant'Orsola by Tommaso da Modena, and masterpieces by G. Bellini, Lotto, Tiziano, and J. Bassano. The Dominican church of San Nicolò, with its famous Capitolo room filled with frescoes by Tommaso da Modena is also worth visiting. The Casa dei Cararresi is a great place for art lovers as it hosts international exhibits.

The high walls of the medieval castle that survived the storms of history and gave its name to the city stand stately and majestic. The castle is reminiscent of the battles and rivalries between the powerful towns of Padua, Vicenza and Treviso. The heart of Castelfranco Veneto is enclosed by a fascinating wall, one of the best preserved in Italy. Tourists ill be able to feel the atmosphere of this city's rich past just walking through the center. Walking through the streets picturesque places and prestigious buildings can be seen, such as the Teatro Accademico and the Palazzo del Monte di Pietà, a source of loans for the poor of the city and surrounding villages up to the 1900s. At sunset Castelfranco shows its beauty, when the lit castle looks like it has come out of a fairy-tale. The castle can be admired while sipping a glass of wine in one of the many venues of Piazza Giorgione or strolling through the elegant Corso XXIX Aprile, with its ancient buildings. Castelfranco Veneto is known throughout the world for being the birthplace of Giorgione, most extraordinary and enigmatic artist of the fifteenth century. Very few precious works by this mysterious genius of light and color have been found. The house of this extraordinary person now houses the Casa Giorgione Museum, which holds the Frieze of Liberal and Mechanical Arts, the only fresco attributed to the artist. The most famous work of the master is the Altar piece of Castelfranco that can be admired in the Duomo of S. Maria Assunta, in the Costanzo Chapel.

Parks & Nature

The 4152 hectare (16 sq miles) River Sile Regional Natural Park lies within 11 municipalities in the provinces of Padua, Treviso and Venice. The springs are situated between Casacorba di Vedelago (Treviso) and Torreselle di Piombino Dese (Padua), source of Italy's longest resurgence river, about 70 km from Casacorba di Vedelago (Treviso) to Portegrandi di Quarto d'Altino (Venice), the natural mouth of the river in the Venice Lagoon before the "Taglio del Sile" canal was opened. Since the earliest times, its mild climate, navigable waters, proximity to the sea, copious outflow from the springs and abundant woods in the surrounding countryside (although similar, the landscape was different from that of today) attracted populations to the Sile where they settled along its banks.
