If you happen to be a music buff, a collector of vinyl or (the now dated) CD's, you must check out PDQ Records, just a minute walk from the Casa. They have hundreds of records and some of the most obscure titles. This is a music collector's dream store!

The interior of The Shelter is done up in a retro-vibe. You get the feeling that it hasn't changed in 30 years...and it's because it basically hasn't! It is built in an old fallout shelter, hence the name!
Karl and I went straight here immediately following our wedding to have our first married cocktail together. We didn't tell anyone and showed up for our own reception a bit late! :-)

If you like to shoot pool and play a few tunes on the jukebox, this is a good nearby place. Their bar food is pretty decent too!

The atmosphere is great here - if you are going out for a night of drinks and live music at The Rialto or Cub Congress, (or any other number of live music venues within walking distance downtown), this is a great meeting point to have a drink beforehand!

Decent selection of wines and plenty of beers on tap. It's a bit hidden - you may not normally stumble into, but right in the heart of all the downtown nightlife.

There is a great 2-3 mi walking/jogging/cycling trail all around Randolph/Reid park.

This is right down the street from the Casa and is the closest point to going the Rillito River biking and walking trail. At this park itself it has sporting fields and a fenced dog park where you can let your pooch rough and tumble with other neighborhood dogs.
I visit this trail a couple times a week if I can!

A true greasy spoon cafe beloved by locals that is open for breakfast/lunch as "Frank's" with excellent omelettes and biscuits/gravy (if that's your thing). It's open again at night for dinner as "Francisco's" serving excellent Mexican food. Walking distance from the Casa!

Think Subway, but with fresher ingredients - although the real reason to visit Eegee's for me is to get their signature "drink", an Eegee! It is a frozen, slushy (you need both a straw and a spoon) that comes in fruity flavors, including a flavor of the month. My personal favorite is asking them to mix together lemon and strawberry. There are little bits of real fruit in every Eegee and in hot Tucson weather, it's an addictive treat!

Black Jack Pizza is our recommended delivery pizza for the Casa! In addition to custom pizzas they also have calzones, chicken/wings and really fresh salads. You can easily view their menu and even order online. Who needs Domino's?

Outstanding Mexican food - but you better bring your appetite, you will definitely not leave this place hungry! Cathy and Terri have been ritually visiting La Parilla for nearly 20 years. Before you even order the friendly staff bring a big bowl of freshly made corn tortilla chips and 3 different kinds of salsa.
We nearly always split a Champingnon Suiza, which is a piping hot appetizer served piping hot out from under the grill of simple button mushrooms smothered in Mexican cheese, served with warm flour tortillas. You must also try a bowl of their tasty Tortilla Soup (ask for sour cream, avocado and lime). Wash it all down with a Mexican beer - or two. :-)

Sightseeing
Heading to 'A' Mountain in time for sunset and/or afternoons during monsoon season with the thunderclouds rolling in is a must-see. With a breath-taking view of the entire city of Tucson and beyond for miles, there is ample parking and trails/viewpoints. About 20 min drive from the Casa.

If you want to see some iconic Southern Arizona scenery, just take a short drive through Gates Pass. I never get bored of the beautiful saguaro cactus and mountain silhouettes. There are viewpoint pullouts to stop and take it in.
Also, if you want to visit the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum or Old Tucson Studios, this is the best/most scenic route to take!

Also, if you want to visit the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum or Old Tucson Studios, this is the best/most scenic route to take!

Not your ordinary movie theatre - The Loft is an independent theater showing indie films, documentaries and cult classics. They have been running Rocky Horror Picture Show ever since I can remember!
