An Instagram Favourite...head down the Manifold Way from the village and after approx 25 minutes walk you will find this natural Karst cavern located in a steep limestone crag. It's a popular tourist spot as once you are in the cave you have views over the Manifold Valley. Did you Know....The cave was used in the filming of The Verve's 1993 video for their single "Blue", and is also pictured on the front cover of the band's first album, A Storm in Heaven.

Wetton Mill Tea Rooms, is the starting point of many walks. It is a very popular spot with visitors to the Manifold Valley, which has some of the most spectacular scenery in the Peak District and is rich with wildflowers, butterflies and birds. Housed in one of the former grist buildings at the mill, which provides the most welcome refreshments. Surprisingly, the river beds of the Manifold and Hamps that flow through the valley are frequently dry, as the waters soak away into the porous limestone rocks below and only reappear in wet weather. During dry weather, The Manifold disappears at Wetton Mill and re-emerges from its underground journey from a boil hole at Ilam. The Leek and Manifold Light Railway used to run through the valley. Lack of sufficient business forced the closure of the line and it has subsequently been turned into a trail for walkers and cyclists, only two miles of which is not car-free. Ossum's Cave at Wetton Mill is known to have been used in the Stone Age, where flints were fashioned.

No visit to the Peak District would be complete without visiting the fabulous Chatsworth House. At Chatsworth there is something to do for every member of the family. The Farmyard and Adventure playground is a brilliant day out for children of all ages - with animal handling, milking demonstrations and daily activities, plus a woodland adventure playground with slides, trampolines and more! Then there is obviously the House itself, steeped with history it’s one of Britain’s greatest stately homes and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The Gardens are equally as impressive as the house, over 100 acres and as well and the beautiful flowers and plants, there are giant water features and sculptures dotted around. Again, suitable for all the family, with the maze, the garden trails, and the famous water cascade to keep the little ones occupied.

Sitting pretty on the village green, The George at Alstonefield is definitely worth a visit. A popular dining destination, our food is recognised by Michelin, The Good Food Guide, and Sawdays, credited by some of our best food critics and most importantly loved by our customers – its relaxed fine dining done magically well. Enjoy a warm welcome and join us for lunch, dinner or Sunday lunch – its a bit of an institution! Ingredients simply. In the warmer months our pesticide-free vegetable garden provides the kitchen with an abundance of vegetables, blossom and herbs; we have chickens and ducks for eggs, and last but no means least, our own small apiary which we are passionate about – and that of course supplies us with delicious meadow honey. We always aim to use quality local produce and work with nearby allotment holders, farmers and businesses to keep food miles to a minimum and welfare a high priority. Provenance and seasonality are, after all, always at the heart of our menu and keep our chefs continually inspired!
